Starfield How to Fix Stuttering, Freezes, Crashes, and FPS Drops

Posted on September 4, 2023
This is a Starfield guide and id say a pretty well researched guide to how to fix all the major issues youre perhaps facing. I ran into these problems too, i looked everything up online and no matter what i did it seemed to never work according to their solutions. But, today i will be showing you the CORRECT way to fix all of these issues in the game, trust me … i spent 200 dollars trying to fix this so dont be like me and instead save some money.

List of things you’ll need

(1.) Desktop computer
(2.) Philips head screwdriver
(3.) SSD
(4.) SSD internal adapter (if your slots are full already / if you have a prebuilt then that means your slots are more than likely full already)
(5.) Common SenseLinks to purchases youll need:

If you want a cheaper SSD:

What to do now

Now after youve bought everything you need you should be ready to go. Lets go over some things that might be useful information.

before you start this please turn off computer and unplug everything

If you have a prebuilt:
More than likely youll have all slots full, in this case youll need to slot the SSD (fully built according to instructions) into a manual internal slot most likely located underneath your – graphics card, main fan, and or motherboard; but most likely underneath either the main fan or graphics card. Youll see a long black input only separated by a small insertion towards the left area of the black line. What you need to do then is to rotate your fully built SSD upside down to line up with the two inputs expending out of the adapter and slot it in.

Do you need extra support?
No, its not necessary if its lite enough, however i would check on it every so often. This way if youre lazy like i am then you dont have to worry about it.

If you have a built:
More than likely youll know where this part is, if not, some people do put it around the same area of the prebuilts or around the graphics card itself.

For deep internal slots not taken up:
please refer to this guide here – https://www.pcworld.com/article/394138/how-to-install-an-ssd-in-a-desktop-pc.html

Now that youve installed your SSD properly:
turn on your pc,

go to the search bar and type in “partitions” and click the ”Create and Format Hard Drive Partitions”

now itll give you a option to either separate the partitions or keep them together either way its not gonna effect it much at all so pick whichever one.

make it fullscreen so you can see ALL partitions clearly

locate the partition (represented by a black line) at the very bottom of the screen and right click

click ”new simple volume”

proceed with the installation process, restart afterwards to make sure its complete.

Test the game if youre fine now then good on you and enjoy, however, if not …

Still having FPS drops?
refer to this mod here – https://www.nexusmods.com/starfield/mods/111

What methods dont work

External / Portable SSD and SSD adapters:
The cable itself is a bottleneck that strains the computer, otherwise if installed internally it can draw out its power to its maximum extent.HDD:
This is whats causing the issues, please NEVER use HDD for games and only regular storage of pictures, etc.
