THE FINALS – Basic Guide For New Players

Posted on December 8, 2023

For beginners of THE FINALS,  this guide will help you to have a better start and show you the best class to use, the best gun to use.

Introduction

You are reading a steam guide on what is good. So you either have never played a shooter in your life or are really bad and do not want to be a menace to your team. I applaud you because losing even ONE player from a 3-man team means the enemy has a 50% more firepower.

Lets get into it:

Class overview

I am going to keep it simple:

Light DO NOT PLAY!

  • 150 hp
  • high damage weapons.
  • high mobility if used correctly
  • a lot of grenades

And there comes the problem. Using the light class to its full potential is very hard and you quickly become a burden to your team as you are always dead or hiding to regenerate your health.

Medium PLAY THIS!

  • 250 hp
  • good weapons.
  • good mobility gadgets
  • easy to use support gadgets

This class is in my eyes the best class for beginners. You have decent weaponry, very good support gadgets and the healing beam is one of the best class abilities in the game. Your healthpool is big enough to forgive errors and you are quicker than the heavy if you need to run.

Heavy DO NOT PLAY!

  • 350 hp
  • good weapons.
  • low mobility
  • Area denial support gadgets
  • 2 great shield options to protect teammates

The Heavy is the best cashout defender with the massive area denial his kit offers. BUT this is also the reason I do not recommend him to beginners. His area denial can quickly open up new entries for attackers and damage your teammates. His low mobility makes him a sitting duck against average light players and the time to regenerate health is very long.

What specialization to run as medium

Now that you have learned why you need to play medium I can offer you some assistance in choosing the right tools for the job:

Recon Senses

  • + You can give info to your team on enemy whereabouts (but who is listening anyway).
  • – You are not a light so why do YOU need to run this?
  • – It offers little to nothing to your team if you are running sonar grenades.

Guardian Turret

  • + Pretty good area denial when defending cashout.
  • + High health target to distract enemies.
  • – damage is easily tanked while capturing a cashout.
  • – turret aim is very slow.
  • – when placing takes ages to activate.
  • – gets wrecked by glitch grenades.
  • – gets easily countered by environmental destruction.

Healing Beam

  • + It automatically targets teammates for you.
  • + You can not screw your team by using it ever!
  • + In combination with the defibrillator just a massive advantage in fights.
  • + Massive heal to support your heavy/medium buddies when low.
  • + Counters pyro AND gas grenades.
  • + Two healing beams on a heavy make him pretty much immortal.
  • – limited range and teammates always try to run from you.
  • – also countered hard by glitch grenade but what is not.

What gun to run as medium

Okay now this is where it gets tricky:

Use what you want. All weapons have their advantages and disadvantages in certain situations.

I can not recommend the GL-40 and Riot-shield to beginners as they are hard to use effectively.

What gadgets to run as medium

Must haves:

Defibrillator
I am sorry to tell you but this is by far the strongest gadget in the game. Not using it as medium is like griefing.

Mobility
Here you have a choice. Either the jump pad or the zipline.
The jump pad offers quick vertical movement and you are quite hard to hit.
The zipline offers vertical and horizontal movement at medium speed but you are easy to hit.
Use one of them to support your heavy.

Last semi-open slot
I made a little flow chart for you to figure out what to run:

Summary

Now you know what to play. If you are here for the TL;DR:

Your loadout should look like this:
(Use weapon of choice, replace jump pad with zipline if prefered)
