This is the step by step process of how to get through Night One
Spawn
You have spawned in a peaceful looking area called the Forest Biome, this is just about the safest place in your world. To either side of you are some trees, the guide, and most likely a green slime.
The Guide
The guide will have the name: Andrew, Asher, Bradley, Brandon, Brett, Brian, Cody, Cole, Colin, Connor, Daniel, Dylan, Garrett, Harley, Jack, Jacob, Jake, Jeff, Jeffrey, Joe, Kevin, Kyle, Levi, Logan, Luke, Marty, Maxwell, Ryan, Scott, Seth, Steve, Tanner, Trent, Wyatt, or Zach (Source: https://terraria.gamepedia.com/Guide#Quotes) And to communicate you will Right Click onto him once he is highlighted in yellow to interact with him. (Unless you have changed the settings).
He will Greet you and tell you to talk to him whenever you have questions.
The slime that will most likely come from the right of the screen will be shot at once by the guide using a wooden bow and arrow where it will the be up to you to finish it off.

Your Hotbar
You will have a hotbar of ten blue squares in the upper left corner of your screen. There will be three items in the toolbar: A copper short-sword, a copper pickax, and a copper ax. The short-sword is a terrible weapon that will not do the job of attack and defense. So you should hit the 3 on your keyboard to switch to your ax which you swing and will make it much easier to kill the slime.
Trees
With your ax you should kill the green slime and then approach the nearest tree and click and hold on the middle of the trunk to get the maximum amount of wood. The tree will soon break and some wood and around three acorns will fall. Plant the acorns by clicking on the ground and then proceed to do the same to around three to four trees.
Pickaxe
Once you have cut down about four trees, hit 2 to equip you pickaxe and mine around 20 dirt blocks somewhere not too far away but not too close to your spawnpoint.
Workbench and Shelter
Hit esc and scroll through the crafting menu on the left side of the screen beneath the item storage until you find the workbench. Craft one then place it on the ground. Clear all nearby trees and build the frame of a house using dirt from mining that is 4 blocks wide and 5 blocks tall around the workbench. Break three of the walls to create an opening to walk through. Go and stand in front of the workbench and hit esc again and craft a wooden door (costing six wood). Place the door in the opening you made to create your very first base.
The Base
To protect your guide you will need him to move inside the house, and to do this you must make it habitable. The way to do this is to stand next to the workbench and open the crafting menu (esc) and make walls with the dirt to place all inside the frame of the house. Then open the crafting menu again and make some torches using wood and the gel collected from the dead slime and place one on a wall inside the house. Then go to the menu one last time to craft a wooden sword. This will be better against slimes and the zombies that will come in the night.
Night
Night will come sooner than you will expect. You might have barely completed your house by the time it falls. You will know it has begun because it will become visibly darker and the music will change. You will need to go into you house with the guide. You will soon start to hear “Blach” sounds which are zombies. You are no match against one! Your sword has very little knockback and does monimal damage. You will also see floating eyeballs around, these are Demon Eyes, you can swat them away easy but if they get into your house you’re going to die. Be warned, THE GUIDE WILL OPEN THE DOOR and he will go outside and likely let zombies in, box him in somewhere so that he can’t. If zombies do get in, run. The guide won’t back you up and he will die. Lead the zombies away and then build yourself a hideout that you can deal damage from but not get hit in. To do this you must not stray too far, DO NOT EXIT THE BIOME, enemies only get tougher in the neighboring Ice or Desert biomes. Build a frame that is tall enough for you to stand in and dig out two blocks from the wall of the frame starting at the block one above the base. This will leave an opening that is two blocks tall that the zombies can’t get through but the eyes can. Spam the left mouse button with the wooden sword equipped until the night is over.
