American Truck Simulator Box Trailer Guide

Posted on November 13, 2020

For American Truck Simulator players, this is a guide about the Box Trailers (Dry Vans/Insulated/Refers) of ATS. This will include things such as Axle Weight Ratings, GVWR, cost, and other data that’s critical to buying a trailer.

Introduction

This is going to be a guide about the Box Trailers (Dry Van/Insulated/Refer) in American Truck Simulator. This guide will also include stats for nerds, such as VWR (Vehicle Weight Rating) based on number of axles as well as Tare Weight of each trailer configuration and total cost of each (base) configuration.
My goal for this is to help people make the proper decisions to buy the right trailer to haul the load they want to haul in one easy place, in addition to giving people a general place to find info on this stuff.

Disclaimer:

I may be wrong about some things and will be continually editing and changing this guide to be in line with actual numbers as well as other things.
When I do the numbers for GVWR I will always add the tractor using these numbers:

12,000 lbs – Steers
34,000 lbs – Drives
—————————
46,000 lbs – Gross

When it comes to the trailers it will be dependent on the number of axles and the distance between each axle/tandem set.
I will be using the FHWA Bridge Law Guide[ops.fhwa.dot.gov] for numbers.

Refrigerated (Refer)

Trailers are also very common in the US and are used for everything that requires temperature control, but can also be used as a dry van if need be(though not in game).
In real life, Refers have “Chrome Doors,” as such I’ll be including a separate cost listing for the chrome doors modification.

Additional Types of Trailers

Introduction (electric boogaloo)

These are the multiple unit (articulated) sets of truck sim. These are different enough to warrant their own section. Each Type will be broken down into Type, then Sub Type (i.e. B-Double/Dry Van). This section is a work in progress, and due to IRL commitments I may need some help for bits that are not 100% complete.
