For Warhammer 40,000: Darktide players, this guide will show you a quick method to give a try if you are having crash to desktop problems.
Two Steps:
Press the windows button on your keyboard and type run then press enter.
type %appdata% and press enter.
open the fatshark folder then open darktide folder then open user_settings.config
now change the following parameters to completely disable RTX.rt_checkerboard_reflections = false
rt_light_quality = false
rt_mixed_reflections = false
rt_particle_reflections_enabled = false
rt_reflections_enabled = false
rt_shadow_ray_multiplier = 0
rt_transparent_reflections_enabled = false
rtxgi_enabled = false
rtxgi_scale = 0
step 2: Lower the number of threads used by the game. You can keep increasing the number if you are not crashing but if you crash then you should lower to the next tier; also if you are 10+ threads not crashing but feeling stutter you should try 6 threads:
Open your Darktide game launcher from steam library.
Click on Settings on the game launcher.
Scroll the page down to find Worker Threads and now you have some options:
1 worker thread: the safest but will severely lower your fps. Use only as a last resort.
1-4 worker threads: still considered a safe margin with improved fps but only use this option if you are still crashing.
*half -1 or half your processor threads: this is where i recommend you to start at half your processor threads -1. Say you got a 14 threads processor then you should start with 6. For some people 6 threads is a *sweet number* to reduce stutter with fatshark games in general.
more than half threads: game should have a marginal fps improvement with 10+ working threads. But for some people it will introduce stutter to the game.
I’m currently using 6 threads and it’s my first zero crashes day since the game launch. Hopefully can work for some of you too. Give it a try. /fingerscrossed
