Rotwood: How to Get Unlockable Cosmetics

Posted on May 4, 2024

Guide to get cosmetics locked behind mastery challenges

Intro

There are eight cosmetic items per race that are locked behind mastery achievements. They are behind the last one or two achievements in each category except the boss category. I’ll share here what they look like and how to get them easily.

Unlockable cosmetics

  • Aquatic race (one hairstyle, one bangs):
  • Mammimal race (two different hairstyles):

  • Orc race (two different hairstyles):

General recommendations for long combos

Most of these masteries rely on long combo chains, so I highly recommend getting the Groak weapons (Wetwhacker, Hork Fork, Splatshot, The Bog Blaster), which you can unlock from a Frenzy 1+ shop in Blisterbane Bog. If you max out the effect of these weapons, it will give you +100% bonus time to keep your combo. Try not to upgrade the damage of these weapons though, so that you can keep your combo without killing enemies.

Snortoise Armor, which you can get from The Molded Grave shops, deals damage whenever you hit the ground, which includes attacking with aerial combos and after dodging while you are in a heavy weight class. This can help you build your combo, but if you keep getting hit because dodging in a heavier weight class is harder for you, then I don’t recommend it. Don’t upgrade the effect because that will increase the damage and make you kill enemies faster.

For maps, I recommend Blisterbane Bog for maps with mothball piles, especially if it’s after the Groak miniboss because then you have extra hazards where the stalagmites come down with extra mothballs to hit. Also the Enigmox boss, before he loses half health and spams the teleport attacks, is another good area to get combos because of all the stalagmites. Another good area is The Molded Grave for maps with lots of Wollusk spawns. They’re very slow moving and their shells can take a lot of hits so you can get some combos after you’ve cleared the room but left their shells.

For powerups, I highly recommend anything with charge, this can rack up combo counters very fast.

Mastery achievements

Note: You need to do each of these tasks several times for each mastery, but I forgot to record it before I finished them.

Hammer: Hitstreak with Fading Light

Second to last hammer mastery. This one isn’t too bad, practice comboing with Fading Light attacks at base. I did just two back to back Fading Lights, then spammed light-light-heavy-heavy aerial hammer combo to get 20.

Hammer: Advanced Hitstreaks

Last hammer mastery. This one took me the longest, but I was able to do it using with the Wetwhacker (Groak hammer) in Blisterbane Bog with a charge powerup.

Spear: Drill Hitstreak Expert

Last spear mastery. I used Hork Fork (Groak spear) in Blisterbane Bog to get this. I tried using Barbed Pike for its extended multithrust attack (light-light-light-heavy) effect to extend the combo, but most enemies didnt survive it for it to be worth it.

Striker: Masterful Hitstreaks

Last striker mastery. This one can be cheesed – take Splatshot (Groak striker) and max the effect. Then in any map with enemies, clear it and claim the reward. You can juggle two balls against the wall with your light attacks to get the combo and it will count.

Cannon: Skilled Hitstreaks

Second to last cannon mastery. This one must be done with Splintered Cannon or Hail of Glory for their Battering Ram skill. Make your weight class heavy, I recommend using Snortoise Armor for the extra hit. Heavy weight class means that you can spam heavy attack without moving too far away from your enemy. I just walked up to a group of enemies, then spammed skill twice then heavy six times.

Cannon: Advanced Hitstreaks

Last cannon mastery. I did this just like the previous one, except I used The Bog Blaster (Groak cannon) and did it against Wollusk shells in The Molded Grave. Even with the Bog Blaster, only a perfect reload won’t drop the combo, so practice doing that a few times if you can’t get a 50 combo with just 6 ammo.

General: Perfect Dodge Cancel

Second to last general mastery. Go to Great Rotwood Forest at Frenzy 0 with any weapon except cannon. Just practice dodging at the last second against some beets.

General: Perfect Dodge Cancel Hit Streak

Last general mastery. Bulbin and Iriss armor make dodge spamming with a non-cannon weapon fun, and I ended up doing this achievement quickly without trying.
