Filthy Animals | Heist Simulator FAQ for New Players

Posted on April 5, 2023

This guide is a FAQ from the developers of Filthy Animals. Got a question, tech issue, or gameplay query? Check here first!

Multiplayer Questions

Does Filthy Animals have a single-player mode?

Yes! Filthy Animals has full single-player support. Puzzles and events are altered if you’re playing solo, meaning you’ll be able to experience the madcap mayhem of Filthy Animals even if you’re playing alone.

How do I invite friends to play?

Simply choose ‘multiplayer’ on the main menu, select a save, and then follow the in-game prompts to open Steam’s social menu. Here you will be able to invite your friends to play with you.

Steam Remote Play is also enabled, please see here for more information on how to play using this method.

If you’re looking to make friends to play Filthy Animals with, head to our Discord[discord.com] where we have a looking for group channel!

How do I mute other players in-game?

If your friends are being unbearable on voice-chat, you can mute them in two places.
After selecting a level you’ll be able to choose the other players in your gang and mute them before the level starts.

If you’re in-game, open the in-game menu and choose ‘Players’. You can mute the other players here.

How do I use Steam’s voice chat feature?

Make sure that your microphone is configured in your Steam settings. You can reach this via your Friends List Settings where you can run a Microphone test, check your levels, and make sure that the right input and output options are selected.

Is there crossplay between Epic and Steam?

Yes! Players who own the game on Epic and Steam will be able to play with each other. You will have to sign into an Epic account to do so, but once signed in you will be able to invite your friends no matter which store they own the game on.

Can I block people from multiplayer?

The multiplayer in Filthy Animals is invite-only and restricted to your friends list. If you feel you need to block someone permanently, remove them as a friend, and you’ll never have to see them again in-game!

Is there matchmaking?

Filthy Animals has been built as a co-op game for local and online multiplayer, to invite someone to play you will need to have them on your friends list.

Why do you use Epic Online Services for multiplayer?

Epic Online Services helps us enable crossplay between Steam and Epic players and we figured, if it works good enough to keep Fortnite players online, it’s good enough for us.

Please note you do not need an Epic account and do not need to link an Epic account in order to play Filthy Animals online.

Technical + Connectivity Issues

I can’t join or host multiplayer games

First, please check that you have selected the online multiplayer mode via the in-game menu to create a lobby so you can invite your friends to play.

If you are in a lobby or trying to join a friend’s game, make sure that you are online in Steam in order to be seen by your friends and invited to games. In addition, check the Epic Game Server Status page[status.epicgames.com] to make sure that Epic Online Services are up and operational.

A few players have encountered issues when their Epic and Steam accounts have been linked in the past. Simply unlink and re-link your account if you’re experiencing this and try again – this should usually resolve the issue.

In addition, if your firewall has blocked Filthy Animals from connecting, you may need to check if you can add an exception to your firewall’s rules – please check the documentation for your security software for more information.

I get disconnected from multiplayer games

If you experience disconnections when playing we recommend as a first step to ensure that no other applications are using your internet connection, such as anything downloading, or uploading in the background.

Users on Wireless connections, mobile connections, or satellite internet may find improved connectivity when using a wired, Ethernet connection.

Temporarily disabling your firewall may help you troubleshoot the cause of the issue. If connectivity is normal with your firewall disabled, please refer to your firewall’s documentation for further assistance.

I keep getting lag when playing multiplayer

Filthy Animals has a lot going on so when you experience lag in multiplayer it is usually caused by something interrupting the connection between yourself and the other players in-game. The first thing to check would be to make sure that all players are using stable connections when playing Filthy Animals – a wired, Ethernet connection to a broadband router would be preferable.

If all players are experiencing lag the best step is to test if one player’s connection is causing the issue. Exit the level and ask another player to invite your gang – then test in-game to see if the lag persists. As Filthy Animals uses peer-to-peer connections, the quality of the game experience can be impacted by the host so changing host can help identify the cause of the issue.

If issues continue after checking the connections of all party members, we recommend following the advice for troubleshooting connection issues found here[www.epicgames.com].

My FPS is low

If you are experiencing poor performance in-game that isn’t related to online lag, first make sure that your system meets the minimum requirements. You can find that information here.

On some systems you may need to lower resolution or drop the detail level in-game in order to achieve a better frame rate. You can do this all from the options menu found in-game. In addition, make sure that you aren’t running the game in a resolution higher than that supported by your monitor.

Make sure that no background applications are interfering with the game by closing background programs or putting your Windows PC into a Selective Startup.

Ensure that all drivers are up to date. You can usually do this via Windows Update or in the case of most graphics drivers, automatic updates can be enabled in the manufacturer’s software.

No-one can hear me in-game

We would recommend checking your settings in Windows, make sure that your microphone is plugged in and the levels are set appropriately.

In addition, you may need to check that Windows Security has not blocked your microphone from being used. Microsoft’s article should help you configure this[support.microsoft.com].

I want to report a bug

Please head over to our Discord[discord.com] or the Steam Forums to let us know what issue you’re encountering. Our developers will be investigating from there.

General / Gameplay Questions

Can I play with mouse and keyboard?

Yes – Filthy Animals does include full mouse and keyboard support. Please note though that Filthy Animals is best on a controller.

What’s the objective of Filthy Animals?

In Filthy Animals you play a mutant animal recruited by criminal mastermind Tony Baloney. You and up to three friends will break into places, steal stuff, defeat enemies, solve puzzles, grab loot, and get out (hopefully) alive.

Every level has its own objectives – check them out on the in-game menu!

My teammate has turned into a ball, what do I do?

Take them to a toilet! These little ‘flushies’ need to be taken to one of the toilets on the map, flush them and they will come back to life ready to play further – but you only have a few flushes each before it’s game over!

I’m playing solo, can I still be flushed?

Yes you can! As a flushie you can roll about and jump, get yourself on a toilet and a Robot Friend will flush you getting you back into the game. But be warned, you only have limited flushes.

Why can I eat pigeons?

Because you’re a filthy mutant animal and you have no manners.
