For Phasmophobia players, if you have more than 3 friends but you want to play in the same lobby, this guide will show you how to play coop with more than 4 players, let’s check it out.
Intro
Yes you might have googled on how to play phasmophobia with more than 4 players. Well i didnt do so… So i started to go to work and change the game a bit. After i made the modification i started to google who had already made such a modification, (this was because i noticed a couple lobbies with more than 4 players). After finding someone else’s project on github i was able to see what they made their mod do. I personally wasn’t really a fan of it. Their mod changed the core of the game (by being able to add more ghost’s, change your name & colour, hunting delays etc.) This is quite funny ofcourse, but that defeats the spooky purpose of this game.
My mod is basically vanilla + 8 players and no cheats 😉 With more then 8 players the game becomes unstable and no fun anymore. i wouldnt even recconmend more then 6 tbh.
it was quite easy to mod, like any other unity game. Thank you developer for using photon! like i do in my games. (if i ever finish one that is lol)
Let’s start
For this start phasmophobia. in the main menu you should see a server version on the bottem-leftthis version should be 0.174 like shown in the picture:
if all is good then you may go to through with the installation process. just make sure you dont install the mod if your version differates from the one in the picture (0.174). Ill update the guide when the game updates.

Installing the mod is really simple. so lets go!
note: if you messed up your game install then just click “verify the integrity of the game”.
note: i also added the one that comes with the game, just so you have an second backup.

Starting a lobby and checking if it works
You can find a sign on the main menu showing you that the mod works. This is a simple text next to the server version. This also works as a reminder you still have the mod installed.
Please don’t try to join 4 player lobbys that arent modded and full. It wont work..
It might show like there is place for 8 players, but the server will decide that you are not allowed to join.
this is just to prevent your game from crashing, this was the only bug i could find that would crash the game
What also could happen is that the lobby screen glitches (visually), so again first set everything up (items,map) and then invite your friends.
Kicking players is laggy. the board only has place for 4 entitys so kicking player 5 is close to impossible…
the ready and start buttons are a bit bugged. They should still work

Ok so the core of the game is not designed for more then 4 playes. some things work better then others.
a funny glitch is that you can make a picture of one of your friends (that is not fully registered to the game) and it will become evidence as a dead body.
I tried to change the lobby to add more items, but after that try the item spawner pooped it’s pants. I dont want to change everything to make that work correctly. It’s not my game and i already think it’s not very nice of me for releasing this mod.
i didnt put allot of work in this mod, there are allot more talented modders then me so keep your eyes open 🙂
I hope we will soon see more updates of this great game! And (maybe) even upping the players size for asylum. Since that map is great to play with 6 gamers ;).

The easiest way to determine if a lobby is a “modded” is, if it has more than 4 players. Other signs can also be unusual AI behaviour, teleporting, or even multiple ghosts.
Some of these users have been claiming to be developers with access to tools. No member of staff will be using such tools in the public branch of the game and all testing is done on private beta and developer branches.
Anyone using such cheats are not developers or members of staff.We are currently looking into ways to combat this but until then please avoid joining such games so your files are not corrupted and the servers can function normally!

Im just sharing the information, to give you an indication. Please note that savegame corruptions mainly happens when save-game information is being edited. My mod only changes the way the server and (clients) work.
Im still waiting for a reply from the developer, as it is not my intention to ruin anything. The only reason i made this mod was that my 5 friends can play this game with me on the bigger maps.
And i wanted to share it with others who walk against this limitation…

I can’t get the mod to work on the beta version (IL2CPP). Soon the game will update to IL2CPP, that’s the day this mod won’t work anymore. it crashes the game and or doesnt let more then 5 players join. Im going to keep an eye out for if someone else manages to make it work. But for now im not going to put any more time/work in it. When i find anything working and usefull Ill share the link here.

so you can see what a low effort mod this actually was. Never knew it would take off like that. 20k registered downloads is quite much.
And the archived project for the IL2CPP mod that i abandoned (i removed all the harmony patching & handling code because it didnt work, same goes for the 8 playermod itself. No point in uploading something that doesn’t work…)

Temporary Fix
Since the game is patched, and this mod only works on oldbuild, if you change the beta to oldbuild it will work.

Yo this is great! We played with the 6 of us. Wish we could have more items. 4 big flashlights not enough we had to use big and small.
First extract the mod with winrar before you place it in the game folder lol.

I will test this mod, seens great and a lot of fun, but you didn’t specified if all of the players need to download the mod or just the host that creates the room, im kinda of a newbie on using mods.
So does everyone need the mod or just the host?
Downloaded this to play with 6 of my mates, does all 6 of them need to download it? Or just the person hosting the server?
Hi, thank you for the mod. We had to exit and reenter the lobby a few times before we could add our items successfully. When we started the match it crashed almost everyone out of the match.
However, I don’t think it’s right that you offer the dev a way of asking you to remove this mod.
It’s really up to us, the players, if we want to do this. I have no idea what the dev thinks about this, but it’s not his place to allow or impede us from modding the game. Or you from posting the modded file. So, in case the dev is a twat and wants this gone, please delete that from your post.

i intall this mode and play with 7 friends, i only could listen 5 of them and some of theme only listen to 2 of us, what can i do to fix this problem or i just need to play with discord?

Grafton Farmhouse doesn’t work. We tried it with 5 people and when the game loads in, the description paragraph of the ghost on the white board (where the ghost name is displayed) is completely gone and we cannot open the main door using the key.
