Here is an official guide for all routes and endings so people can refer to it whenever they can’t access some specific content.
It’s not a step-by-step walkthrough, as there are no hidden requirements or options to unlock most scenes.
For those who’ve been asking, the newest scenes are all part of the latest main story additions, which I’ve been calling the “Ending 2” sequence. The guide here has a description of how to get to them.
Updated for V0.5.9-full in March 2025
BRANCHING AND ENDINGS
‘The King of Summer’ is a fairly linear visual novel, with most choices consisting merely on choosing what scenes to play first, through a map interface.
That said, there’s very specific branching points within the story that will lead you, the player, to a variety of different story routes or endings.
I have created this spoiler-free guide in order to help anybody who’s unclear on how to access these routes and endings.
The game has an integrated walkthrough system, with different icons appearing on the map interface to indicate new scenes.
Red ‘!’ icons determine main story scenes, which are mandatory to progress through the game and reach new stages in the storyline.
Yellow ‘!’ icons mark scenes that grant manly-points, generally tied to non-mandatory scenes related to Mary or one of the side-heroines.
Blue ‘!’ icons mark story-only scenes without any kind of sexual content, or that do not give a manly point increase. These are sometimes necessary to further the story
of one of the side-heroines.
Black ‘!’ icons are only visible in Arato’s Route, and mark scenes that increases that route’s specific corruption level. Leveling it up is necessary to continue the story.
Intro story and down the NTR path
The introductory portion of the story is very straightforward. All you need to do is wake up as Satoshi and willfully choose to *not* hang out with your hot-as-fuck girlfriend, Mary. Easy, right?
However, there *is* a single little way to get mixed up and end the game early, temporarily locking you out of 95% of the game. You don’t want that, do you?
So here’s the steps you need to follow in order to get Mary and Kendo’s relationship started properly.
- Start the game and play until the map interface is unlocked.
- Keep selecting to ‘Go out’ during the Day, but do not hang out with Mary, letting Uncle be with her instead.
- Repeat this until all events are exhausted (manly level 8).
- Select option to “Go to Mary’s room… Again”
- A date sequence between Satoshi and Mary will be triggered.
- On next choice, select “Tell her to change”.
- On next choice, select “I’m in the moral right. I need to call her out on it.”
- Finally choose “My views are correct. I’ll make Mary see that”.
- This will allow you to continue to the rest of the game.
How to Access the ‘Kendo Route’
Events surrounding Kendo comprise the main content of the game, and as such, his route is considered to be the Main Story of The King of Summer.
Through triggering Kendo events with Mary or different ladies, ‘Manly Points’ will be earned, which will in turn help unlock even more scenes.
A ‘Manly Level’ of *40* is required in order to continue on to Kendo’s Route. Otherwise, the choice will be locked.
- Continue playing through the game as normal, playing scenes and gaining manly points as you see fit.
- Gather at least 40 manly points (almost the maximum you can get before reaching this specific branching point).
- As you progress through the story, events will occur that will prompt Satoshi to call a specific person.
- Switch to ‘Satoshi’ on the map interface (solo, without Mary), and look to his character portrait on the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- Select the option to call a specific person.
- On the next scene, select “…Let him stay”.
- On the next scene, select “Let’s drink the whole glass”.
- Finally, continue with this story sequence and select “Don’t intervene…?”
If you follow these steps correctly, you will access Kendo’s Route.
You can jump back to the prior story event and unlock an alternate route by checking the “Change Routes” option in the map interface.
How to Access the ‘Arato Route’
The ‘Arato Route’ is a companion storyline to Kendo’s, detailing a more classic NTR scenario, with a darker and meaner turn to Mary.
Unlike with Kendo’s route, no specific manly level is required to reach it. After the first sex scene, you are free to ignore every other side-heroine and focus solely on
Mary’s story scenes.
- Continue playing through the game as normal, playing scenes and gaining manly points as you see fit.
- It is not necessary to gather any extra manly points other than the ones granted by main story scenes (red ! icons).
- As you progress through the story, events will occur that will prompt Satoshi to call a specific person.
- Switch to ‘Satoshi’ on the map interface (solo, without Mary), and look to his character portrait on the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- Select the option to call a specific person.
- On the next scene, select “Make _____ leave the resort”.
- On the next scene, select “Let’s drink the whole glass”.
- Finally, continue with this story sequence and select “Don’t intervene…”
If you follow these steps correctly, you will access Arato’s Route.
You can jump back to the prior story event and unlock an alternate route by checking the “Change Routes” option in the map interface.
How to Access the ‘Satoshi Route/Ending’
There’s current a couple of ways to access Satoshi’s Route / Ending. This has not been implemented yet, and will most likely be made into a short ending sequence in the future.
Still, if you are curious, these is the steps you can take.
Method 1
- Start the game and play until the map interface is unlocked.
- Keep selecting to ‘Go out’ during the Day, but do not hang out with Mary, letting Uncle be with her instead.
- Repeat this until all events are exhausted (manly level 8).
- Select option to “Go to Mary’s room… Again”
- A date sequence between Satoshi and Mary will be triggered.
- On next choice, select “Let’s apologize…”
- On next choice, select “Yes, let’s apologize and mend things”.
- Finally, select “Yes, I trust Mary”.
Method 2
- Continue playing through the game as normal, playing scenes and gaining manly points as you see fit.
- It is not necessary to gather any extra manly points other than the ones granted by main story scenes (red ! icons).
- As you progress through the story, events will occur that will prompt Satoshi to call a specific person.
- Switch to ‘Satoshi’ on the map interface (solo, without Mary), and look to his character portrait on the bottom-left corner of the screen.
- Select the option to call a specific person.
- On the next scene, select “Make _____ leave the resort”.
- On the next scene, select “Let’s drink just a sip”.
- Finally, continue with this story sequence and select “Intervene!”
Again, there’s nothing in it. This will be re-made at a later date.
ENDINGS
Each of the above-mentioned routes has or will have 1 or more endings. As of right now, only the main Kendo Route has any, with 2 Main Endings, each one with a number of variations.
Here’s how you can unlock them.
***** KENDO ROUTE ENDINGS *****
ENDING 1
1. For Ending 1, you don’t need to bother with any content related to side-heroines that are not Mary if you don’t want to.
2. Watch all 3 Mary ‘date scenes’, unlocked after certain story events.
3. Then, select the ‘Beach’ as Satoshi (solo).
4. Select “After three dates… meet with Mary”.
5. Keep selecting single-option answers until a multiple-option question pops up.
6. Select “I love you”
7. If you want to see the NTS/Netorase variation of the ending, select “I don’t know what I want…”
8. Otherwise, select “I want a future with you”
9. The next story sequence will play out, but by making the above choice, you’ll already be locked in Ending 1.
10. Throughout the story sequence, you’ll be given the choice to “Do it…” a couple of times. You can select these if you want, but they are only important for unlocking the Ending 1.2 variation at the end.
11. You’ll have one final choice to select the variation of this ending
ENDING 1.1 (NTR)
12. Select choice “Please, give me one last chance…”
13. Let events play out, and reach the ending screen.
ENDING 1.2 (NTS)
12. You need to have made the answer “I don’t know what I want…” earlier, as well as to have “Done it” twice during the prior events.
13. Select the choice “Please, let me watch…”
14. Allow events to unfold and reach the ending screen.
ENDING 1.3 (PAYBACK)
12. Select choice “I’ll give up”.
13. Allow events to unfold. This variation doesn’t have a sex scene, but does offer a very different outcome from the other two.
ENDING 2
1. For Ending 2, you need to first go to ‘Pool’ at night as Satoshi, and watch 3 scenes with Shizuka (unlocked after each completed date).
2. It is also necessary to watch an Arato-related story event (marked ! in the map).
3. Watch all Mary date scenes.
4. Select the ‘Beach’ as Satoshi (solo).
5. Select “After three dates… meet with Mary”.
6. Keep selecting single-option answers until a multiple-option question pops up.
7. Select “I still can’t say that…”
8. Select “I want something else”
9. The next story sequence will play out. While it might initially seem the same as Ending 1, events will branch out after a certain scene with Shizuka.
10. Many scenes will play out.
11. A handful of choices related to Kendo will come up. None of these are important for this ending sequence, save for the very last.”
12. On that last Kendo choice, select to “give up”.
13. You’ll have one final choice to select the variation of this ending
ENDING 1.1 (‘Love’)
14. Select choice “I don’t care about those feelings anymore”
15. Allow events to play out and reach the Ending screen.
ENDING 1.2 (‘It Never Changes’)
14. Select choice “I don’t think those things will ever stop bothering me”.
15. Select “No, I don’t need to change.”
16. Allow events to play out and reach the Ending screen.
