For Sonic Frontiers players who have realized the game is in a rough state to say the very least when it comes to the deck but I have spent the time messing around with settings to get it running at what I would consider an enjoyable level.
A few things that I want to lay out ahead of time are as follows:
NO this does NOT completely fix the flickering but it DOES greatly reduce it
NO this does NOT completely eliminate stutters but it DOES greatly reduce it
You WILL need GE-Proton 7-41 (search for ProtonUp-Qt in discover if you don’t have it already, setup is pretty straight forward)
Alright so now that we have that out of the way let’s get in to the settings to make this game actually playable on the deck.
ON GAME PROPERTIES:
General->Launch Options: DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command%
This will assist in reducing stutters
Force compatibility tool: GE-Proton7-41
Now launch the game and once everything is loaded up press your … button and go down to the performance tab. From there you will want to enable advanced view if you have not already.
PERFORMANCE SETTINGS:
Use per game profile: ON (not necessary but it just makes things easier every time you launch)
Frame Rate Limit: 40
Refresh Rate: 40
IN GAME GRAPHICS SETTINGS:
Shadow Quality: Low
Frame Rate Limit: 60
Anti Aliasing: TAA
Ambient Occlusion: On
Local Reflection: On
Bloom: Low
Volumetric Lighting: High
Rendering Scale: 75% (minimizes flickering, but it does still occur sometimes. If you don’t mind a LOT of flickering you can run 100% and performance is about the same)
Resolution: 1280×800
Screen Mode: Fullscreen
Vsync: On
In the roughly 8 hours I’ve played with these settings on the deck I’ve experienced very minimal stutters and flickering but they do both still occur just at much more reasonable levels. Frame rate is more or less locked to 40fps and frame times are also very solid and it gives a very smooth experience overall.
That’s all we are sharing today in Sonic Frontiers Better Performance on Steam Deck, if you have anything to add, please feel free to leave a comment below, you can also read the original article here, all the credits goes to the original author Vanny_Dorito
