For Slasher’s Keep players, this si a guide based on my own experience of Monsterpastry, and I have some moderate experience. It will cover most things if not all.
Creating a new savegame
I made an Amazon for this guide. After I’m done with this, I’ll keep playing as her, and there’s a reason.
The loading screens have different text, depending on what race you choose in character creation. On to the next part!
What you’ll find when exploring
Then you must open the chest in the room.
The chest always contains a weapon and armor.
My favorite thing about the items is that they’re randomly generated, so you’ll get stuff with different damages and armor.
Also, items look different depending on their rarity, and rarer items have more stats and skills included.
You can either drag and drop items to their specified slot, or right-click, to swap whatever is currently equipped with that item. Now that you can defend yourself, break the spider webs and head out!
Dungeons are randomly generated, but there are still secrets.
I’ll start with the various things you’ll find around the dungeon.
Of course, items can drop from enemies or chests, but sometimes you MUST find a secret to progress.
In some rooms you might find this thing. Interact with it to crank it until it stops. That will tell you when the secret door can be opened. To find the door, look for it in the room first, then navigate towards it through the minimap.
Sometimes, you’ll find a key from an enemy or a secret. This makes it clear that the exit needs to be unlocked with this key.
Another way to find a secret is by finding a sparkling panel hidden on a wall.
Interact with the panel to uncover a button, then press the button.
Somewhere,if you’ve seen an outline of a door, that’s where the secret room is.
This is a shrine or something. You can place items on it and it will give you something in return.
To attempt to show you how it works, I was going to place my invulnerable potions on it.
Unfortunately, I placed the three common ones on it first.
You only get hurt if you place common items on the shrine. Rarer items cause you to get a reward of the previous rarity when placed. You get potions or bombs by doing this.
Other times, starting AFTER the first floor, you can find parts to use in crafting.
Crafting rooms can be found on floors alternating with shops after the first floor.
This will be taught later…
You can drop items in this chute, and when you die and end up back in your cell, the items you drop in here will be in the chest.
Fight to save your life
Keep in mind that I’ve died a few times trying to make this, so you’ll see me with different stuff sometimes.
You can either click to do basic attacks, or hold down the left mouse button to do a more powerful attack. Power attacks can be modified by moving in certain directions when you hold the mouse.
The one screenshotted above is a thrust, done by moving backwards. You can also push enemies with your bag by pressing… (I forgot the default key for this; I change the keybinds in the launcher to suit me.)
You can do this to push them back to give room, or…
You can push them into traps, such as wall spikes, or pits.
When you’re not attacking, you’re likely defending or trying to flee.
You can hold right-click to block with your weapon… well, your melee weapon, specifically.
You can also dodge attacks by moving away.
Goblins drop their own weapons when killed.
Wands have differing magic types, which serve as different functions to your wand, like a gun.
If you right-click with a wand out, you just focus your aim. And it’s toggled, so make sure you use wands when the threat is too far away to just approach and hit without difficulty.
Another one of these goblins carries a staff, which unfortunately, we cannot use.
This one, that I screenshotted in the heat of battle, is using a staff that can heal others.
The blue goblins carry other types of staves, which you will see later on.
After enough fighting and secret-finding, you gain enough EXP to level up!
You gain 4 points to allocate to your stats, and a random skill.
You can click the small book in the corner to view your skills.
