Witch hat: get in Alice’s house in Sitcombe; photo in Mainton

Deerstalker hat (or Sherlock Holmes hat): get in central lower stairwell; photo in Mainton post office (Thanks to MayStart for helping with this one!)

Blue conductor hat: get in Factoryton in professor’s building; photo in Sitcombe

Blue top hat: get in grand ballroom; photo in Big City

Boater hat: get in Big City; photo in Factoryton

Viking hat: get in swimming pool; photo next to fisherman’s boat

Fez: get in far east suite; photo in greenhouse

Please comment if I’m mistaken on any of these, I started writing these down after I had already collected some of the hats so they were strewn about in places I had left them instead of their original places, but I think this is right.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS get the swimming upgrade when you unlock it. It will make it so that you don’t have to frequently get up out of the water to stop from dying. It makes it a thousand times easier, especially for the water boss.

Speaking of the water boss, I always have a hard time beating her because I’m not all that great at the swimming mechanic, so I stock up on as many shields as I can so I can use them to take some shortcuts. Like in the last section of the boss, if you have a shield, you can just swim straight down through the red gears to the exit.

Once you get the shoulder barge ability, it’s also really helpful to get the upgrade for that. It allows you to use the ability to kill enemies too. This will make beating the game and finding more junk easier. Some of the gears can even be attacked and give you junk! If the pause screen says there’s still junk in a room and you can’t find it, if there are gears there, try barging those.

And on the shoulder barge ability, go back and check every room you can once you have it (and preferably the other abilities too). Even the rooms you’ve been through earlier in the story, because there are a lot of secrets that you can’t get to when you first visit them. Once you have all the abilities, explore everything everywhere you can. There are a lot of those breakable walls hidden all over the place, especially in places you visit earlier in the story like Alice’s junk shed and the building where you save Mr. Silton.

To get the Mode 7 achievement, YOU HAVE TO BUY THE TV REMOTE. I have seen in countless guides that you just type “100” on your keyboard for the channels to pop up, but none of them say you need the remote. Also, some of the channels will not work. This is normal. The last channel is 22, I believe. Just let the news scroll through all the pages before moving to the next channel.
