If you play Feria d’Arles, this guide will be a complete solution to the entire game, including all achievements. The whole guide is basically one big spoiler. Please don’t spoil the game for yourself and use this only to get a hint.
Getting started
You start out at the overlook where the bus that took you to Arles is parked. Walk to the amphitheatre, and Molly will automatically try to sign up to the tournament. Hampton P. Crisp will determine that you’re not quite suitable for participating in the tournament. If you ask him, he will tell you that the bagpipers signal the start of the contest when the mayor shows up and starts playing. Talk to the bagpipers and get them to plan a tune for you. Notice how the birds fly off in a panic when they play. When you walk to the town square, a cutscene will play. Turns out the mayor is suspicious of you.
Exploring the town
In the town square, take the rope. Proceed to the market and watch a man get ripped off by the market trader and the parrot from across the street. Talk to the market trader and discover that the parrot is preventing you from getting a sparkly suit at a good price. Prod the parrot with the wooden sword (“Squawk!” achievement). Try buying a hat and, you will find that you need a coupon for that. You can, however, take a balloon. Ask him about all the other stuff he sells, and when the options run out, you can ask him to get something for free. He will give you a canvas bag. Then go for a chat with the greasy teenager to learn about pastis, but he won’t let you buy any.
The back alley
Move on into the alley. There will be some voices coming from behind the door. Go check it out and you will find out in a cutscene that the Order of the Bull mistook you for the mayor. Get them to repeat the name of their order, by saying “No” when they ask for it to get the “What was it again” achievement. The barber in the alley could help get rid of your pigtails, but he’s too busy with his previous customer who hasn’t told him to stop. Talk to him to find out about his past mistakes as a barber surgeon. Click on the chair or on the dead guy to learn that the chair rotates, but the customer would fly off if spun too fast. Grab a pair of scissors from the barber’s tools.
The garage
Walk to the garage and you get mistaken for a jockey. The mechanic refuses to really talk to you, but there may be a way to take him out. Open the drawer in the tool chest and, when the mechanic is looking the other way, take his wrench. Go back to the town square and prod the faux bull with your wooden sword until the sword breaks, leaving you with a wooden stick (if you had done this earlier, you would not have gotten the “Squawk!” achievement). Make your way back to the bus and take the flyer from behind the windscreen wiper. Use the mechanic’s wrench to open the bonnet and pull out the hose (getting you the “Ouch!” achievement).
Go back into the town to the marketplace and attach the hose to the pastis machine, take a cup and use it on the hose to attempt to fill it with pastis. It melts straight through, giving you the “Just like grog” achievement. So, take another cup. You can ask the market trader about the Order of the Bull to get the “Timeshare” achievement”. Make your way back to the garage and fill the cup with either water from the puddle in the alley, or from the trough at the garage. Replace the mechanic’s blue cup with the red one. If you time it so that it happens when Indiana Jones is doing the same with the idol, you get the “Les aventuriers de l’arche perdue” achievement.
Growing taller and getting a haircut
Go back to the marketplace and use the blue cup on the hose to fill it with pastis. Remember to take back the hose. In the inventory, cut the coupon off the flyer. Taking a look at the flyer, you will learn about how to make a traditional feria bagpipe and, on the other side, you will see that the major actually looks like you, but wearing a funny hat. Give the coupon to the market trader to get your free hat.
Time to start doing some creative combination of inventory items. Go into the inventory and open the lunchbox by right-clicking on it. The lunchbox will be replaced by a carrot and a honey sandwich. Go ahead and pop the balloon with the scissors, leaving just the string. Tie the string to the wooden stick and then tie the carrot to it to get a carrot on a stick. Use the honey sandwich on the canvas bag to make it sticky and then push the hose into it in order to make bagpipes (“Oh great, bagpipes” achievement).
Return to the garage and switch the cups around again. The mechanic will pass out and get squished by the hoisted horse. That should give you the “He’s not dead” achievement. Try talking to the mechanic to get some terrible puns (“A pun too far” achievement). Take all the horseshoes that you can (“Stand tall” and “Stand REALLY tall” achievements). Tie the rope to the horse. With the other end of the rope still in hand, walk back to the alley and tie the rope to the chair. Go back to the garage and use the carrot on a stick to make the horse bolt off and send the dead customer flying. Now, you can get a haircut too! Do so and you will get the “Everything still attached?” achievement.
Getting the sparkly suit
With the haircut and the horseshoes, you now meet two of the three criteria Crisp had set for you. You still need the sparkly suit. If you try playing the bagpipes at the marketplace, you’ll notice that the parrot (like the pigeons at the amphitheatre) doesn’t like the sound very much, but it’s not loud enough to get him to fly off. But the bagpipe players at the amphitheatre would signal the start of the contest when the mayor starts playing and you have a hat like the mayor so you look even more like him, and you have a bagpipe. So, proceed to the amphitheatre and start playing those bagpipes. That worked! It made the pigeons fly, but did the same to the parrot, so you can now finally get the sparkly suit. (“Equipped for battle” achievement)
Now you’re all set to enter the tournament, so go talk to Crisp at the amphitheatre, getting the “The Running Man” achievement.
Endgame
In the arena, you will keep moving around the arena in quarter turns whenever the bull charges at you. Take out the muleta from your inventory and use it on the bull to unroll it. When you do, something will roll out of it and the bull will knock the shiny shield off the arena wall. Keep rotating around the arena, picking up both the spray can and the fallen shield. When you see the mayor’s VIP booth in the background behind the bull, use the snooze-e-bull spray on yourself, then use the shield and aim it so that the mayor can be seen in the reflection. That should knock out the bull and win you the tournament. The Order of the Bull will come in and rescue the bull while he’s asleep. You are found out, though, so you become a “Fugitive from justice” with the corresponding achievement. Congratulations, you’ve won the game!
