Union Recycling Plant
After the intro cutscene you arrive at the Union Re-Cycling Plant. Notice the guard chain-smoking? LOL. So, heading downstairs is obviously a big no no.
Look for a red/white cable RUNG and collect the METAL ROD. You may read the NOTICE on the emergency fire exit DOOR to the right. Since, you don’t have a key, use the METAL ROD to pop it open. Once you’re outside, keep a mental note on the big S SIGN on the right. Head back in and exit to the room on the lower right downstairs.
You will notice an ELEVATOR and a TRANSPORTER. Explore the JUNK on the floor by clicking over a few of them to reveal a ROBOT SHELL. Use the CIRCUIT BOARD in your inventory with the ROBOT SHELL to activate Joey‘s AI functions.
Exit to the next room on the right to meet a MAN named Hobbins. Talk to him particularly about the TRANSPORTER. Notice a CUPBOARD below? Good. Unfortunately, you wont be able to open it with Hobbins around.
Re-enter the junk room to converse with Joey and keep bugging him about starting the TRANSPORTER. Then stand on the striped ELEVATOR, making Hobbins leave his workshop. This gives you an opportunity to sneak over and open his CUPBOARD. Pick up the WRENCH and the SANDWICH (if you’re hungry) before he returns.
Return to the junk room and watch the TRANSPORTER droid loading barrels onto the striped ELEVATOR. Stand on the side of the elevator where there’s a long pole. Once a barrel is deployed, the ELEVATOR descends and opens up a HOLE in the floor. Click it to slide down along the pole. Joey follows you down.
You are now in the FURNACE Room. Notice an AI CAMERA in the upper foreground. There’s a DOOR and it has a LOCK panel beside it. Talk to Joey in order to hack it.
Inspect Reich’s bloody CORPSE to obtain a pair of DARK GLASSES and an ID CARD.
Exit the Furnace Room and explore the upper level walkway if you’d like to.
::MAP:: UPPER LEVEL
Lets head to the Pipe Factory. You will notice a WOMAN, a lass named Anita. As soon as you finish talking to her, you’ll meet Gilbert Lamb the supervisor, who relocates Anita. Have a conversation with him too.
Exit to the right and talk to a MAN holding a clipboard named Potts. Use your WRENCH with the COGS in the middle of the room and pick it up from the BROKEN COGS. Head back to the previous area and use the WRENCH on the ROBOT. Talk to Joey about upgrading his shell with a welding mod.
Head back to the area with the BROKEN COGS and attempt to enter the storeroom with SENSORS. Get Joey to enter the storeroom and wait for him to return. Convince him to disable the fuse box in the stores.
You now have access to the storeroom undetected by the sensors. Lift the GANGWAY, and collect the PUTTY underneath it. You may also pick up the WD-40 and KEY. Exit the storeroom and get searched by Potts, who then confiscates the WD-40, KEY, SANDWICH and the DARK GLASSES.
Exit the Pipe Factory. Inspect the red CABLE just before the Crash Site exit and get Joey to cut it with his welder. The cable drops to the middle level.
Now lets go to the Power Plant. Have a conversation with the old bloke and mess around with the objects in the room if you’d like. Notice two BUTTONS below a steam pipe near the entrance and unlock them using the WRENCH. Get Joey to press the right button while you press left button simultaneously. This will overload the steam valve and make the old bloke leave. Turn off the main SWITCH above the CONTROL PANEL and pick up the LIGHT BULB. Place the PUTTY on the LIGHT SOCKET and turn the main SWITCH back on. This results in a short circuit, opening the left CONTROL PANEL. Turn the main SWITCH back off.
Notice two SWITCHes (levers) within the left CONTROL PANEL? Get the left SWITCH levered up and the right SWITCH levered down. Turn the main power SWITCH back on.
Return to the Main Elevator and access it with your ID CARD and descend to the mid level. Make sure to wait for Joey or else he gets left behind.
::MAP:: MIDDLE LEVEL
Welcome to the mid level! There’s a walkway behind that connects both ends of the level and acts like a huge roundabout.Let’s begin by picking up the red CABLE that Joey cut earlier.
Apartments / Plaza
Now, enter the Apartment complex. Use the ID CARD on the panel beside the left DOOR, which happens to be Reich‘s apartment. Flip the PILLOW and pick up the Motorcycle MAGAZINE beneath it.
There’s a gentleman named Gallagher sitting outside in the garden. No harm having a chat with him.
Head to the Plaza and enter the travel agency (TravelCo). Talk to Trevor and book the Economy Tour. Pass the MAGAZINE you collected earlier to Trevor. Now you may grab the TICKET from the desk. Give the GLOBE a spin, for fun.
So, now you need to pass this TICKET to the supervisor (Gilbert Lamb) and he’ll give you a tour of the factory. He should be roaming somewhere between the upper and middle levels. His apartment is right beside Reich‘s and occasionally enter/exits his room. Try finding him!
Head back to the Pipe Factory and talk to Gilbert Lamb about taking the tour when you see him. Since you’re a guest, you can now continue to enter the rightmost area of the factory.
Speak with Anita about the JAMMER. Pass the ID CARD to Anita and learn about the Schriebmann Port which is required before entering the LINC-Space, a VR platform.
(Same concept as jacking into The Matrix)
So access any LINC TERMINAL with the ID CARD and choose:
Security Services > Special Operations > File Adjustment > Hit option 1 & 2
Talk to Gilbert Lamb, see if he has a problem. LOL.
Apartments / Burke’s Bio / Anchor Insurance
Once you’re done talking to Lamb, return to the Apartments beside Reich‘s room. You’ll be able to enter Lamb‘s room using the ID CARD. Pick up the VIDEO CASSETTE (it’s playable on the VCR), use the FOOD DISPENSER and feed Gilbert‘s cat. You’ll collect the VIDEO CASSETTE before heading out.
Next go to Burke’s Bio Surgery and use the virtual assistant projector. Get Joey to do the talking with the virtual assistant too. Enter Burke‘s office and talk to him about selling your kidneys, lung and testicles. You’ll eventually get a Schriebmann Port. Lastly, ask the doctor about getting to the ground level, and he refers you to an insurance agency.
Head to the insurance agency (Anchor Insurance) at the Plaza and wait for Joey. Talk to a MAN named (Willy a.k.a Billy Anchor) at the desk, particularly about “special policies”. Billy then heads behind to make a phone call. Get Joey to use his welder on the STATUE and pick up the ANCHOR.
Take the Main Elevator to the upper level and revisit the Recycling Plant. Go upstairs and head outside through the fire exit (at the beginning if the game). Combining the ANCHOR and the red CABLE produces a GRAPPLING HOOK. Notice a big SIGN on the wall opposite from where you’re standing? Use the GRAPPLING HOOK on the SIGN.
Interface Room @ Securities HQ
After a short cutscene, you will end up in the locker room of the Securities HQ building.
The next area is the interface room. Use the ID CARD on the SLOT beside the INTERFACE. Access the INTERFACE to jack into the Matrix …err, I mean the LINC-Space.
This, is the LINC-Space. Your inventory now has a set of commands/data instead of objects.
Pick up the BALL (Compressed Data – Red & Green YinYang symbol). Exit right by clicking the purple plasma to reach another space. Open the CARPET BAG (with the ‘Open’ command from the inventory) and obtain the MAGNIFYING GLASS (Decrypt) and BIRTHDAY SURPRISE (Decompress). ‘Decompress’ the ‘Compressed Data’ in the inventory to give you ‘Green & Red passwords’. Also, ‘Decrypt’ the two unknown ‘Documents’ in the inventory marked with a “?“. (This will decrypt the previously encrypted files on the LINC Terminal.)
The Thick plasma beam in the center is still inaccessible at this point. So, exit through the thin plasma beam on the right. You will enter another space that has panels on the floor with those same green and red symbols. Place the ‘Red Password’ on the tile you’re standing on. This opens a bridge for you to cross between tiles. Keep alternating between the green and red passwords on the tiles, picking the ‘red/green passwords’ as you go. The aim is to reach the thick beam exit on the right, it’s pretty simple. You won’t need the red/green passwords anymore after this, so just leave them there.
Exit to the next space and pick up the BUST (Phoenix) and BOOK (?Document). ‘Decrypt’ the third ‘Document’ and ‘Disconnect’ from the LINC-Space.
Interface Room @ Securities HQ
You’re now back in the Interface Room @ Security HQ
There will be a LINC TERMINAL nearby, access it with your ID CARD.
Navigate to: Security Services > View Documents
Read all documents and learn about the truth! You now have clearance to exit the interface room once you swipe Reich‘s ID CARD on the exit SLOT.
Remember the old bloke at the Power Plant? There will be a short cutscene of him having a conversation with Norville and Sam at the frontdesk. You may talk to them too if you wish.
Now lets take the Main Elevator down to the middle level.
You have full access to the Mid Elevator now, allowing it to take you (and Joey) to the ground level!!
::MAP:: GROUND LEVEL
**The lower half of both the east and west ends of the lower ground exits to an old shack, south of the swimming pool.
Congrats, you have now made it to the ground level. Notice that you will automatically retrieve Joey‘s CIRCUIT BOARD.
Exit left and talk to the Doorman at the St. James Club entrance. Find Mrs. Piermont walking around with her dog, Spunky. Talk to her about Overmann and sponsoring a membership. Before heading to her apartment, exit south of the swimming pool to the Old Shack. Inspect the DOOR to reveal a LOCK. Do the old slide-a-card trick with your ID CARD on the LOCK. Enter the Old Shack and pick up the SECATEURS.
Now exit the shack and head to the west side of the pool to visit Mrs. Piermont‘s Apartment. Use the BUTTON by the side of the Apartment ELEVATOR to interact with Mrs. Piermont via intercom.
At the Apartment, talk to Mrs. Piermont, particularly about the sponsoring your club membership. As she heads to call the club owner, use the VIDEO CASSETTE on VCR to distract Spunky. This enables you to inspect the dog’s bowl, then pick up the DOG BISCUITS.
Exit the Apartment and return to the ground level central pool area. Talk to the GUARD (Blunt) who’s guarding the Cathedral entrance. Put the DOG BISCUITS on the PLANK. Wait for Mrs. Piermont to arrive and Spunky starts barking at the PLANK. Use the ROPE to lower the PLANK, drawing Spunky on it and catapulting him into the pool. This distracts Officer Blunt from the entrance, enabling you to enter the Cathedral. Inside there will be two exits, head downstairs through the exit on the left. Check the contents of all LOCKERS, particularly the middle one.
Once done, head to the Pipe Factory.
On the way up to the Pipe Factory, talk to Gilbert Lamb about Anita.
Enter the Pipe Factory‘s locker area and collect the OVERALLS from the middle LOCKER (previously empty earlier in the game). Continue walking right to the REACTOR room and use the COMPUTER to open the reactor door. Enter the REACTOR and pick up another LINC CARD on the floor. Return to the locker area and switch back to your totally rad COAT.
Let’s proceed to the Interface Room at Securites HQ for now. Use the new LINC CARD with the SLOT and enter the LINC-Space.
Welcome back to the LINC-Space!
Check your inventory for two new additional commands:
‘Blind’ and ‘Playback’.
‘Blind’ the first EYEBALL. The idea is to get the TUNING FORK before the first EYEBALL reactivates in about 15-20 seconds.
Head to the next space and do the same with the second EYEBALL. This eyeball reactivates only within a few seconds, so be quick to enter the thick plasma exit beside it.
Exit north (before the CRUSADER) and then exit right. Quickly pick up the TUNING FORK! Before the first eye reactivates!
Head back to the previous space and use the ‘Playback’ command on the WELL around the center.
‘Disconnect’ from the LINC-Space, return to the ground level and talk to the Gardener (Eduardo).
Speak with the Gardener and then with the boy (Vincent) sitting on the bench particularly regarding the blue dandelions. Speak to the Gardener again regarding Anita and he will reveal himself as Eduardo.
Head to the Courtroom and play pretend lawyer for a few minutes. Irrespective of the options, the outcome is the same.
Once done, enter the St. James Club after having a conversation with the Doorman. Use the JUKEBOX and select the first song. The owner (Colston) then gets up to change the song, and giving you an opportunity to nick his GLASS.
There will be a door in the background which will require a fingerprint ID to access, and the GLASS has Colston‘s fingerprints all over it.
Before moving on, visit Burke’s Bio Surgery and handover the GLASS to Dr. Burke
Return to the St. James Club, use the GLASS with the METAL PLATE and enter the wine cellar. Stand on the BOX and use your METAL BAR with the CRATE.
Pick up the WOODEN LID and put it on the broken BOX. Then climb over the BOX and use the METAL BAR on the GRILL. Lastly, use the SECATEURS on the GRILL.
Enter the passage.
Subway / BASEMENT LEVEL
Once you’re within the Subway System, exit right three times. Put the LIGHT BULB into the small SOCKET, that’s if you don’t want to get gobbled up by a lurking creature. Head right two more times and immediately enter the lower exit before the tunnel caves in.
At this point you’ll be in a whole new area within the game. Use the METAL BAR on the PLASTER, then use it again with the BRICKWORK deep to it. Pick up the BRICK.
Use the METAL BAR again on the vein SWELLING. Hit the BAR with a BRICK and pick up the METAL BAR. Once the MEDICAL DROID enters the room, exit right and head down through the first stairway to a lava room.
Access the CONTROL UNIT and reduce the temperature. Promptly pull the GRILL handle on the heat vent. There will be repercussions if you delay. Head back upstairs and look through the GRILL on the wall before moving on.
Exit right most again. Use Joey‘s CIRCUIT BOARD on the medical droid’s SLOT. Then, get Joey to help you to inspect the Tank Room. When he returns, talk to him about the Nutrient Tank and exit left of the Tank Room. Remember to loosen the GRILL and avoid spillage from the tank; again repercussions.
Exit through the upper right corner of the Tank Room. Head right again and enter the Control Room. Use Anita’s LINC CARD on the left TERMINAL and gain access to the restricted area.
Exit left and observe the cutscene. You will automatically retrieve Joey‘s CIRCUIT BOARD. Take the medical android’s LINC CARD, head back into the Control Room and operate the terminal with this newly obtained LINC CARD.
Welcome back to the LINC-Space!
Your inventory now will have a new command, ‘Divine Wrath’.
Exit right and use the ‘Blind’ command on the EYEBALL and immediately exit north.
Now, use the ‘Divine Wrath’ command on the CRUSADER!!
‘Disconnect’ and this time re-enter the LINC-Space using Anita‘s LINC CARD, head back to the area with the CRUSADER and exit right. Use the ‘Oscillator’ command on the CRYSTAL. Pick up the digital HELIX. You have now successfully infected Anita‘s LINC CARD with a virus. Finally, ‘Disconnect’ from the LINC Space.
Exit right, back to the restricted area. Use Anita‘s LINC CARD and infect the CONSOLE. You may now pick up the TONGS and pick up an infected sample from the AQUARIUM. Promptly dip the TONGS in the NITROGEN TANK. Any delays will result in the sample becoming nonviable. You may repeat the process again in case that happens.
Exit right to the android activation room and open middle droid’s CABINET. Plug in Joey‘s CIRCUIT BOARD into the SLOT. Run the droid’s CONSOLE and download all of Joey‘s AI data and proceed with activation. The other droids will harm you, so don’t activate them.
Exit right and prompt Ken to activate the hand sensor. Activate the second sensor simultaneously with Ken. Then exit right twice and mount the red CABLE on the PIPE SUPPORT. Get down the ladder and use the TONGS within the ORIFICE. Keep in mind that the specimen needs to be infected with the virus. Climb the CABLE and enter the final room.

Shortly after the cutscene, quickly command Ken to sit down on the chair. Not doing so will have dire consequences. Kudos if you were fast enough. Enjoy the cutscene.
