This guide assumes you know the basic features of the game along with the units and buildings which most old players will remember from memory. For the completely new players, hotlinks to the wiki i lead will be included to help you better understand the guide. Some generally handy tips are spread throughout the wiki so reading it is definitely worth it.
This guide can be updated and is open for suggestions, please leave them down in the comments below.
Early Game
Starbase 1-3
The first few Starbase[galaxylife.fandom.com] levels are the most fast-paced in the game, with short building and training times and lots of things to do at once, such as quests, starting up different types of buildings, looting main bases and colonies.
The best thing to at the start of the game is to follow the missions[galaxylife.fandom.com] as they are an excellent source of coins and minerals[galaxylife.fandom.com] when you start the game, if you don’t have enough capacity then coins and minerals will be stored in the inventory for you to use later.
Tight schedule?
If you don’t have alot of time to play, then hard-focusing on upgrading Compact Houses[galaxylife.fandom.com] is the way to go, they generate coins while you are away so you don’t have to spend hours searching for colonies in the galaxy to loot. However you will have to login to the game to have them finish upgrading so the coin generation can begin and your little Starling citizens can be tax’d.
The military route is the risk-reward route where more time and resources are spend upgrading your army and searching for colonies to loot. Skip over Looter and Flamethrower as the best early-game unit is the Bazooka[galaxylife.fandom.com]and is also the first roadblock in the game as it takes 5 hours to unlock slowing you down. Bazookas are essential for destroying Firebit[galaxylife.fandom.com] and Sparragon[galaxylife.fandom.com] for the missions, and their high damage and long range makes them better looters than the unit of the same name which has no range whatsoever and is more vulnerable to defenses because of that. So in the meanwhile you should train Marines[galaxylife.fandom.com] and look for easy colonies to plunder the Banks/Silos of or destroy the Starbase and get mallets (hammers) to hire more workers:
Workers[galaxylife.fandom.com] are essential as they can quintuple the progress of your planet’s development by having a maximum of 5 workers. They require helmets, toolboxes, and mallets to hire. In the early game you are likely to sit at 3 workers before entering mid game and you should stay at 3 workers for all of the mid game as you need to save up hammers to hire more workers on colonies. You get helmets from Compact Houses, you get toolboxes from helping friends and you get mallets from destroying Star Bases including those from NPC’s[galaxylife.fandom.com].
Friends are the most important factor for speeding up your game, friends can:
-Help 5 of your buildings one each planet per day
Helping a building can speed up it’s construction by a certain percentage if it’s upgrading or constructing, this is especially useful on buildings with long construction times such as helping an observatory can take off days of building time if it’s later levels and can stack with multiple players for unlimited days. If none of your buildings are under construction then they can help a destroyed building (not recommended, will turn back to helping a building under construction with time if a destroyed upgrading building has been repaired) and they can help Compact Houses and Mines giving a certain percentage extra to any House or Mine you help (stacks only once). You can also receive items from helping such as a toolbox for hiring more workers, parts for crafted units in the crafting menu in the inventory or Star Batteries for upgrading your Starbase.
-Getting Mystery Cubes
Mystery Cubes are amazing for gaining Coins and Minerals. you can receive 1 per day from each friend in your friend list and have a set order of items you obtain from each one which can be found here[galaxylife.fandom.com]. In the early game, cubes are mostly beneficial for the free strong troops you gain such as Starlinator[galaxylife.fandom.com], Colossus[galaxylife.fandom.com] and Zeppelin[galaxylife.fandom.com] which can also be crafted and are devastating early on in the game before they become standard units.
-Receiving items on your wishlist
This one is generally unrecommended as it requires friends to send one of their own items to you which is something most players don’t wanna do. However there is one item that can only be obtained by a friend giving it from a menu called Shoulder Pad which is used to finish the crafting recipe for the powerful Green Beret[galaxylife.fandom.com]. Friends can give parts for the 3 units you can also get from Mystery Cubes which can be crafted in the crafting menu, if your friends have colonies then they can give planet-type-exclusive crystals for the Skull Nuke.
-Friends Bunker
The Friends Bunker[galaxylife.fandom.com] is the most powerful defense you have early game as it allows friends to send any units to this bunker to defend your planet from attackers. Standard units inside the Friends Bunker should be Bazookas but if they are really nice then they might send a powerful crafted unit, with the Colossus being the best pick for bunkers throughout all stages of the game and will keep your base untouchable unless the bunker is destroyed by 2 Missile Rain battle supports which transitions to the next part:
You shouldn’t worry about defenses at all in the early game as you can start upgrading to Starbase level 4 after a full day of playing, if you already have friends and they are midly progressed (also nearing Starbase 4) then you should place down a Friends Bunker for quick and cheap defences. At the start of the game after the tutorial, you receive a 6 day shield which will expire once you attack.
The first 100 Galaxy Chips you get at the start of the game, what do you use them on? You can spend 10 of them speeding up the Bazooka activation time. But other than that you should save up as much of them as you can for the mid game for colonies.
Mid Game
By now all options have opened up for you and you’re a free Starling ready to do whatever you see fit for your empire.
If you’re gonna focus on upgrading your houses then you should level all your houses equally instead of hard-focussing on only a specific few at a time as you will handicap yourself for a long time if you keep most of your houses low-leveled and your high level houses constantly occupied with upgrading. The payoff is big but most of the time you will be running behind on others as you have other matters to take care of than just coins.
As for Minerals:By now you have constructed a laboratory and can upgrade units with minerals, these are essential for the attacking route for (hopefully) obvious reasons, however each upgrade increases the cost of the unit so be wary of that. The best units in mid game are Bazookas and Beetle Tanks[galaxylife.fandom.com] so upgrade those when you can, if you upgraded them as much as possible then go for S-Trikes as they become the meta unit late game.
Bazooka Beetle combo is the best combo in the mid game as they essentially mimic a Colossus, the Bazooka has low health and high damage and the Beetle Tank has low damage and high health. Put the Bazookas behind the Beetle Tank for a high-health-high-damage combo which is extremely powerful until you unlock the Colossus itself. S-trike is decent but really starts taking off at later levels. You should also unlock the Mender[galaxylife.fandom.com] which is great for healing Beetle Tanks while they are being bombarded, with enough Menders out-healing the dps the tanks receive
As for battle support such as Missile Rains and Boulder Strikes, save those up for alliance wars later on.
Starbase 5 is the level where you unlock Falcons[galaxylife.fandom.com]which are great (and expensive) for offense but incredible for defense so unlock those if you have the minerals.
A trick to earn money: Fill your Warp Gates until it’s full and queue up a unit you want to upgrade, now upgrade that unit and wait until it’s finished, when it’s finished; the unit is more expensive and will refund the same amount of coins of the most recent upgrade, which is more coins than what you paid to put them in the queue initially. Refund the units in the queue and you will have earned a profit!
I hope that by now you have 3 workers on your main planet and tons of hammers saved up to have 3 workers on your colonies too, the reason you want to spread workers throughout planets is to prevent certain planets from being ‘overdeveloped’ (only available upgrades too high for your current progress) and other planets running behind on development.
Colonies[galaxylife.fandom.com] are the most important factor in your expanding empire. You get one by constructing an Observatory[galaxylife.fandom.com] and can get one more with each upgrade, you can build everything on a colony as on your main planet except more Observatories and the Refinery, as such you have to gain workers, activate units and upgrade units all over again which opens up new paths: Do you only build houses? Do you only build military? What are the risks of getting attacked?
My personal recommendation is using your colonies to make up for what you lack, if you’ve been focusing on military then you might be lacking in coins or minerals (if you don’t have a 1000 friends) which you should focus on by getting 3 workers with the hammers you saved up previously, this also goes vice versa. If you’re scared of attacks looting your coin-colony then build defenses or move the colony with 10 chips to somewhere far away from your main planet, with army-colonies there isn’t much to loot except experience points which are more of a detriment than anything as the higher level you are the less players you can attack.
By now i hope you manage to conjure up a few friends to provide you with items and units. You might even have a colony or two which you most likely haven’t placed far, so the risk of friends leaking your planet coordinates is not quite there yet unless you move your colonies quickly with 10 chips.
Once you finished the Save the Starlings! campaign mission chain then you unlock the Academy[galaxylife.fandom.com] which can be used to receive excellent rewards from new players such as batteries and Friendship Stones (free workers!)
You can invite a Steam friend to become a student, and if they reach level 15 in less than 20 days then you get rewards depending on your own level (check the wiki page)
The batteries and workers that can be gained at early levels help immensely so if you already have some friends when you start playing then make them your apprentice.
Spend all your chips speeding up the upgrading time for your Observatory to get colonies as fast as possible which will speed up your progress tremendously. Another option is unlocking more training slots for your units so you can have more units queued up for when you go offline.
Alliances is one of the biggest features in the game and also the drive for people to play it, however due to the costs of gold and time for wars it’s unrecommended to play in alliances until Starbase 5-6, if you decide to participate in wars merely for profit and items from attacking then avoid rising up the leaderboard and facing difficult wars as much as you can as those wars will be nothing but net losses for you and your fellow alliance mates, stay online as much as you can and have good defences and filled up bunkers to minimize the loss of resources during the war, also avoid expensive armies and make sure your attacks end with a net profit.
One thing, once you attack with one of your colonies, it’s coordinates will be exposed to the enemy in their battle log, so if you want to keep a colony safe from being looted for resources and warpoints then hide it far away and don’t attack with it! Make sure you trust your friends as anyone in your friends list can leak the coordinates to the enemy.
However even with the net profit wars, you can easily unlock the Marine unit medal which unlocks the last upgrade for the Marine: Level 7, level 7 Marines make for great and quick looters of any poorly defended planet (Atleast those with no Mortars)
Now you have to focus on defenses, as your average level has made you a ripe target for the target spotter for the majority of players. One of the most important factors is your base layout which other guides might exist for, as a starting tip it’s recommended to keep your bunkers full of Falcons and your Mortars[galaxylife.fandom.com] deep within your base to make maximum use of their range so it’s important to upgrade that one along with Laser Towers[galaxylife.fandom.com] Freeze Turrets[galaxylife.fandom.com] and Missile Launchers[galaxylife.fandom.com] as they are especially effective against Beetle Tanks, Bazookas, S-trikes and Falcons which is what people are using mid-game.
Late Game
You must be playing for a few months at this point and have every unit unlocked and almost all colonies along with being in a sizeable alliance. At this point you’ve seen everything the game has to offer and are ready to start hitting the big leaderboards. You’ve got most of your Compact Houses maxed out on all your colonies and have a good amount of friends (unless you’re in a competitive alliance, then you might not have many friends, to protect your coordinates).
You should continue maxing out your Compact Houses for a steady income during wars as they are safe from the enemy so long you don’t use those colonies to attack.
As for minerals, you might be low on them spending them on upgrading units as much as possible, so keep collecting Mystery Cubes and urge your friends to send them every day.
At Starbase level 7 is where things get interesting and you can get a taste of how the top alliances fight their wars, unlock the Colossus ASAP as you will replace Beetles, Bazookas and Falcons that you have been using for awhile now. They are excellent for cleaning out the bunkers of enemies and are the best unit to fill your own bunkers with. Also upgrade the S-trike to level 6 and start using them as they are the best offensive unit when the enemy’s bunkers are empty. Menders are pretty much designed for Colossi as they can only heal 1 unit at a time, so Menders work well with quality-above-quantity units. You can also unlock the Zeppelin which isn’t a good unit, it’s too expensive and takes too long to train.
Same old deal as in Mid-Game, if you play competitively then only add friends you trust to not leak your coordinates and urge them to send Mystery Cubes every day, even when you’re not at war.
If you’re nice you can also send your lower level friends some powerful troops, recommending a few Colossus and Menders to send to their Friend Bunker and your friends will become unbeatable unless the bunker itself is destroyed by Missiles or Boulder Strikes, which you can then just kindly refill the Bunker.
If you have 3 workers on all your colonies then it’s recommended to get 4 on your last few colonies to speed up their development even faster and make them catch up to speed quicker.
All your colonies should be spread throughout the galaxy by now, you should also have every type of colony for the Skull Nuke recipe.
Try to have the bunkers filled with a few Menders and Colossi at all times as they are the best consistent defences in the game and requires your enemy to make more than one attack to completely your base in wars. Bunkers (as for Mortars) Should be deep in your base covering every corner of it, but not too close to eachother as they then can all be wiped out with a single Skull Nuke and you don’t want that. Also pay attention to Freeze Turrets as they slow down the S-trike immensly and gets them easily killed, even by Mortars.
If you’ve been playing alliances competitively then you might have garnered up a few medals which is harder to achieve on casual alliances but does save resources and time spend on each war.
Now you’re in the big game, and it’s time to have your members be quality over quantity. You want around 10 members who stay online all the time and know how to attack as to avoid your members leaking points to the enemy and decrease the chance of any bad players being free points for the enemy.
If you want to protect your units when you go to sleep fill your warp gates with your cheapest unit, then queue up the army you want to have the next morning. When you log in and have your base destroyed, refresh and your Warp Gates should be full with the units you want. If your base isn’t destroyed then simply remove the Marines and refresh and your units should be there.
Chips now should spend on unlocking more slots for training units as you can hide more coins in them and have more units trained when you go to sleep and wake up the next morning.
End Game
Starbase 9 – Maxed Bases
You’ve done it, you’ve nearly reached the end of the game! Now what? Most of the parts in this section aren’t gonna have alot as most of them are finished with nothing left to do, but i’ll include them for the sake of completing the guide and if i still need to hold your hand at this point in the game.
You maxed out all your houses, mines and maybe even got cubes to spare, these should be spend either fighting in wars. As for units, you probably have them all maxed out and thus you have nothing to spend your minerals on, there was a building made for this exact issue:
Use the Refinery[galaxylife.fandom.com]
So now you must have all the unit medals, utilize the level 7 S-trike, it is the best unit in the game and wipes the floor with most bunkerless bases (even then, massive damage).
Along with the S-trike, you can use the level 7 Starlinators[galaxylife.fandom.com] to target the defences early so the S-trikes are kept alive. Colossus doesn’t change much from level 6 to 7, just more powerful, Menders are still a viable unit. These are pretty much the only units you have to use at the end of the game.
If your last colonies aren’t maxed out yet then get 5 workers on them and get the job done, for the rest workers aren’t needed anymore unless you recycle buildings.
Not much to say here, just keep sending Mystery Cubes and filling bunkers with Menders and Colosi.
Maybe since you have progressed so much, it’s time to teach some younger players and raise them to become good players? Makes you more of a Mentor than the Academy could!
You have all colonies, the type of colonies you have after getting 6 of them for each type should depend on what mineral you are lacking for the Skull Nukes. Alternatively you can go for purple colonies as Habuoyas (the giant trees) can be used to coverup your entire planet and make it nearly impossible for the enemy to strategically attack.
With Starbase 9, you unlock the final level for turrets which are extremely powerful, a level 10-11 Cannon Blast has as much range as a level 1 Sniper Tower
With this you can get the maximum out of base layouts, try other guides or perhaps try some you remember, or invent new ones!
It’s time to go for #1, strive to get into the top alliances and fight to hold the #1 position! This has always been the main driving force for the community and Galaxy Life wouldn’t be the same without alliance wars. If you lead your own alliance then recruit the best of the best, learn the social skills and tricks of the game and who knows, you could rule this game.
Chips don’t have much use other than moving colonies, you can now use chips on whatever you didn’t use them for previously like speeding up units or buying things from the premium shop, or shields.
