As I have seen and been sent many questions about the new god Tezcatlipoca, cat from now on, I thought I would write up a quick guide to share my many hours invested in tinkering with him.
Key Synergies and Combos
God’s Strength + Falling Eagle, This combo provides Cat with a shocking amount of power out of nowhere, I have turned boards with 0-2 power into surprise 18-24 swings! It is excellent at both surprise god kills and defense. A fun trick to consider when behind is to push hard with God’s Strength while reserving a Falling Eagle or two. Your opponent may take the bait and overcommit to seal a win. Also Falling Eagle combos with Sanguine Avatar, Faith Militant and Doubtful Monk by setting its base attack to your leaders and THEN applying its own buff effect.
Deceptive Macaw + Sanguine Avatar, Faith Militant, Captives, and Doubtful Monk, This dirty bird is incredible at turning low power units with strong power gain effects into nightmares. The average Faith Militant sits around 3/3 or 4/3. After a Macaw it is 6/3 or 7/3. Same principle applies to the other listed cards. A notable secondary effect is the cost manipulation Macaw enables. Target your weakest unit when facing Poseidon and watch them sink all their exhausts into a captive lightning rod.
Mulligan
Your priority is literally ANY 3 drop priest to get a board started. Which you prefer depends on if you got lucky or not in the coinflip. If you got lucky and are going first your preferred priests are Wind>doubtful>offering. If you’re going second Predator is your go to as it locks out mid temple harassment by itself.
Your secondary cards to mulligan for are your debuffs primarily helpless/nab ikpa. This is because the ideal turn 2 is almost always to play your god and then debuff whatever they try to hit you with. If you went first this play also provides you with a body to deny a mid temple hit removing your turn 1 priest.
Traps
It is extremely easy to flood your own board with useless 0 power creatures and deny yourself the space to play relevant minions. Learning when to fill the board with captives, when to clear them, how to utilize them, and when to transition into a Sanguine/Militant late game, are all pivotal factors to playing Cat well.
