This is a simple guide explaining the answers to many various frequently asked questions or obscure secrets in the new Crush Depth Update. This isn’t a full walk through, and contains many spoilers – so read at your own risk.
Misc
This is a section for things not related to any particular sector/section of the game but were added in Crush Depth.
A:
Fisherman’s Glue is made on a stove similar to soup or solder. You’ll need Hydrochloric Acid and Fish Bones as the two ingredients.
A:
You’ll need to enter the Security Sector first and encounter the unique enemy there to unlock a new trade at Warren’s store. More information can be found in the “Can you plant Nyxshade Seeds?” and “How do I find the Security Helmet?” questions under the Security section.
A:
When you open a Security Crate you’ll find the unique Night Pass trinket. Wearing it will make security bots (this includes Containment and Defense bots) ignore you as long as you don’t attack them.
Security
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR SECURITY SECTOR UP AHEAD!
A:
Currently, no. The Reaper is locked entirely to the Security Sector and will not hunt you anywhere else.
A:
There’s tgree main ways to get night essence. The easiest but least efficient way is to just grab the free ones scattered around the Night Realm. There’s three total there I believe, the most prominent being on a balcony overlooking the ink well.
If three essence per portal reset isn’t enough (and it probably won’t be), you need to fight the Reaper (IS-0059) head on. The Reaper has two main vulnerabilities – xrays and lasers, which do different things. To get essence, you’ll need xrays. You probably already have an xray lamp (which also makes a good light source) from late game labs, so just bring that along. Blasting the Reaper with the xray lamp will stagger it for a few seconds, and makes it drop essence. It’s not a guaranteed chance, but from my experience it happens quite often. However, doing so makes the Reaper angry and instead of kidnapping you, he’ll just straight up try and kill you. Its recommended you bring a laser weapon such as the energy pistol along while farming essence.
The third way is to harvest Inkfish. You can fish them up from the ink well in the Night Realm, and butchering them will sometimes give you Night Essence.
A:
You can’t kill the Reaper, at least not permanently. If the Reaper is hit by a laser (natural or by a weapon) it’ll vanish temporarily. It’ll appear very quickly again, but it’ll be de-agroed meaning this is your best shot at getting out of a chase.
There’s a laser thats part of the map in security, which you can bait him into. However, to reliably handle him anywhere you’ll need the energy pistol, which requires some night essence to make.
A:
No. The description seems to hint they may be able to be planted in the future, but currently they cannot. Their only use is to be traded with Warren for GATE Security Chest keys.
A:
As you explore the Security Sector you will eventually find 3 of the 4 items for the full security set – the only one missing is the helmet. In order to get the helmet and complete the set, you’ll need to open the GATE Security Chests. You can get a key from Warren by trading in a Nyxshade seed.
A:
You can’t make/unlock it while in Security, despite there being an SUV there. You’ll need to proceed into Hydroplant and find two new resources, Hydro Pipes and Coil Winding to make it.
A:
If you’ve seen mention of either the Sigil or the Night Helmet, you may be confused where they are. If you’ve been to the Night Realm you’ll know theres an ominous pool of ink that goes down further can you can swim. At the bottom of this pool however hides the sigil (from which the helmet can be crafted), but its not accessible yet. You’ll need to come back here once you have the diving gear from Hydroplant, and then head straight down. Keep going. And going. Its extremely deep, but its directly beneath the opening of the well.
When you’ve arrived at the bottom you’ll find a glowing orb, similar in appearance to Night Essence. It may not look like it, but this is the Sigil.
A:
It has some fancy particle effects. Besides that, it seems it does nothing currently. If a use is discovered I’ll update the guide to list it.
A:
It looks cool. But also nothing, currently. Same as the Night Helmet is a use is discovered I’ll update this section.
Hydroplant
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR HYDROPLANT SECTOR UP AHEAD!
A:
You may be confused by the number of tier 5 doors you find Hydroplant and the lack of a hacking device for much of your exploration. Unlike most sectors, the Tier 5 hacking device is unlocked fairly later on into hydroplant, and you’re expected to explore without it.
To craft the hacking device you’ll need three unique resources from Hydroplant;
- Coil Winding, which you get by breaking certain machines.
- Transformer Bushings, which you get by killing Defense Bots.
- Photon Receptors, which you’ll need to get from the Neutrino Detector.
Hydroplant is pretty nonlinear, but its my recommendation you get the Diving Gear from Dr. Hoff over in the Waterfall Apartments first and then head over to the Neutrino Detector.
A:
The new Defense Bots in Hydroplant are very deadly and have a ton of health. They can be killed normally, but its inadvisable in most cases. A few grenades can do the trick, but if you want to do it the “intended” way you’ll have to take note of their unique weakspot. On the back of every Defense Bot is a battery pack with a separate healthpool. Damaging the battery pack will eventually cause it to become critically damaged, and beep loudly. When you hear the beeping, run away. A few seconds later, the bot will explode and drop everything you’d normally get from cutting it up.
Its recommended you have an “agile” and ranged build if taking them on this way. Attemping to stealth stunlock them is difficult as they’ll swerve to face you even when staggered, hiding the weakspot. A gravity cube trinket is especially useful as it’ll let you jump around them. After firing grenades for a bit, the bot will attempt to retreat to a better position, giving you a better chance to shoot their weakspot as well.
A:
Across the Hydroplant Reservoir you’ll see a half submerged tower. You’ll need to get over there either by swimming through the submerged entrance (you’ll need diving gear for this!) or flying over using the jetpack.
A:
You’ll need to go to the Waterfall Apartments and find the balcony, where you’ll find Dr. Hoff working on his laptop. Talk to him and he’ll give you the recipe. The Diving Gear is necessary for many things, including exploring the reservoir and getting the Sigil from the Night Realm.
A:
The Voidpack is a new backpack item which can be found in the Hydroplant. To get the recipe you’ll need to interact with a hologram in the Waterfall Apartments. It can be a bit easy to miss.
To make the Voidpack you’ll also need the Hyperdense Neural Chip, which is unlocked by collecting the Reservoir Growths. You can find them growing on IS-0142 all along the bottom of the reservoir.
A:
To fix the Spillways and get to Reactors, you need to complete 4 tasks. 3 of these are pretty easy, and just require finding and pressing 3 buttons around the Hydroplant. For the fourth however, the transmission, you need to do something a bit different.
First, you’ll need to get to the Neutrino Detector and enter the portal to Voussoir. There you’ll find the Neutrino Mapper, which is necessary for crafting the Neutrino Emitter. This device neutralizes nearby radiation and is powered by lasers. You’ll also want to craft a laser emitter and then bring both of these devices to the roof of the H Tower. There’s a plug on the roof so you won’t need a battery, but make sure you go during day time.
On the roof you’ll find a radio tower with a radiation warning. You need to put the Neutrino Emitter in the “radiation zone” and then power it with the laser. This will fix the transmission. If you’ve done every other step, then you can go ahead and just press the button on the rooftops to activate the spillways.
A:
By far two of the coolest new weapons are the Laser Katana and Deatomizer. Both of these weapons will require you to craft a laser emitter to unlock them. To unlock the laser emitter you’ll need to find the Photon Receptors in the Neutrino Detector first.
A:
It can be a little confusing to find, so I recommend watching Dr. V’s video on it which you can find here;

Similarly, Kylie can be kind of confusing to find. I recommend Dr. V’s video on it as well;
