This comprehensive guide aims to illuminate your path through the initial stages of the game, ensuring that you’re well-equipped to face the challenges that lie ahead. With detailed maps, quest walkthroughs, and strategic insights, this guide is your beacon in the darkness.
1. Prologue
- Shores of Idra. Obtained when completing the prologue.
- Equip the lantern to spot the barrel at (10,5). There are also some potatoes nearby
- Roland has a good athletics skill, making it easy to force open chests
- There’s a note (6,7) next to the oven which reveals the recipe for Salted fish
- One of the cabins contains a masterwork shortsword (5,17)
- Starting a fight with either the crew or the mercenaries will turn that faction hostile, so try to talk your way to stop the mutiny
- Kydeon near the fountain (40,16) gives you the quest of finding him some brandy. It can be found in the kitchen cellar at (69,33). Returning the brandy completes the quest “The Boar’s Medicine”
- Lyra near the mansion (40,30) gives you the side quests “Exploring the grounds” to explore the hedge maze and to get a meal from the kitchen. Both quests need to be marked with [S] for success before you accept to follow her if you want the quest to be completed.
- Entering the kitchen will earn you a lantern, which you can use to cross the maze and complete the first half of the quests Lyra gave you (and there’s another lantern in the cellar)
- In the kitchen, Chef Armand proposes to give you his cheese sandwich recipe if you bring him cheddar and cured ham from the pantry. You will then have to actually make Cheese sandwich with the bread he gives you and show him the sandwich to complete the quest “An evening meal”
- Inside the estate, you can wager with Lyra that you can sneak around the dining room. Follow the eastern wall which is darker. If you succeed you’ll meet Roland. If you choose to learn something as your reward, you’ll get some XP to level up and this might be a chance to learn some new spells from the library. Asking for a kiss and succeeding the roll… TODO
- A crate in the cellar (69,33) contains the brandy to return to Kydeon at the fountain outside at (40.16)
- Cured ham for the chef’s request in the kitchen can be found at (44,34)
- Cheddar for the chef’s request in the kitchen can be found at (47,43)
2. Chapter 1
- A Deeper Dark. Obtained when bringing back the dagger to the lighthouse guard during the quest “A Deeper Dark”
- Chitters-in-Darkness. Obtained when killing Chitters-in-Darkness on the Wreck of the Zephyr, at the Wreck Site
- A Light in teh Darkness. Obtained when completing teh quest “Refugees of Horryn” at the Refugee Camp, which requires completing both subquests “Mouths to feed” and “Outbreak”
2.1 Shores of Idra / Foul Caves

3 – Telescope and Astronomer’s Journal (quest item)
4 – Kat (thief companion)
5 – Old Basilo (quet NPC, general merchant)
6 – Your chest (quest item)

Notes
- Kat is a companion who will join you shortly after entering the map, a little to the east. Unless your main character is a thief, she’ll be very useful to open most chests
- There’s a chest on an island to the southwest (14,4)
- Inspecting the chest in Basilo’s house starts the Stargazer quest (unless you win the diplomacy roll). You need to climb the cliff near the big bones on the beach (13,22) using either athletic check or a rope, then at (9,28) to reach the telescope
- Marita (64,38) gives the quest Well of Tears. Go down the well and resist all temptation and grab the bones in the ganglion at the end of the cave and go back to Marita. You’ll get a bag with 2 food recipes and some gold
- If you read the astronomer’s journal found near the telescope, you can then look in the telescope at the southern quadrant for some XP
It has 4 entrances: the well, the 2 cave entrances to the west, and the barn. The barn door needs to be opened from the inside.
- Inspecting the crate (22,24) adds a new entry in the journal, Smuggler’s Cache
- A survivor (10,18) can be saved for some XP
- The seal for the quest “Sealed away” is among the corpses at (44,32)
- In the well area, the ganglion at (53,34) contains the bones Marisa is looking for for the quest “Well of Tears”
- The southeast corner (39,12) is well protected by albino leeches but has a chest containing 70 gp
- The chest at (53,41) has decent loot
2.2 Lighthouse Exterior / Under the lighthouse
2 – Painting, cabinet, Caspar’s journal (quest items)
3 – Hathis (upstairs)
4 – The 3 stones (quest location)
5 – Buried treasure (quest item)
6 – Survivor (for the “Lost Sailors” quest)
- When entering the map, Carylla gives you the quest “Fate of the Santa Fury”
- In the lighthouse inspect the painting to get some clues about the Santa Fury. This will complete one of the steps of the quest “Fate of the Santa Fury”
- Decode the riddle from the painting. “From the center of the three” refers to the 3 stones in the northwest corner of the map. Then the numbers are directions: 2 south, 5 east, 4 north, 3 east. Use a shovel at that location
- From the 3 stones in the top left corner of the map, follow the painting directino to reach (12,51) and use a shovel to unearth the treasure. You can either give it to Carylla or fight her and keep it
- The cabinet in the lighthouse has the Ration recipe
- Caspar’s journal found in the lighthouse adds a new entry to the journal
- Hathis at the top of the lighthouse gives the quest “The Deeper Dark”. To solve it, follow the underwater tunnel (see below) under the lighthouse and bring back the dagger
- Hathis gives the quest “Dying light” after completing his previous quest
- There’s a hidden cave entrance at (62,29), follow the water shore to reach it
- The underwater tunnel (48,6)
- Make sure your main character has 0 encumbrance by removing their armor to get more oxygen charges
- With 4 oxygen charges, the path East – North – East – East – East leads to the location where the item for “The Deeper Dark” quest (from Hathis at the top of the lighthouse) is located
- With 8 oxygen charges, the path East – East – East – South leads to a drowned body. Examining it yields a smugglers key, then North – West – West – West – West to exit. The key opens the chest in the bandit hideout (59,47)
- In the northeast corner is a bandit hideout. There’s a secret passage at the north end of end leading to the lighthouse (58,49)
- The chest in the bandit hideout (59,47) is very difficult to open with force or picklock, but the smugglers key found on the body in the underwater tunnel will open it

Notes
- Markus (35,46) gives the main quest “Refugees of Horryn”, and asks you to check with the cook Frantzo and with the healer Drahl. Once both their subquests (“Mouth to feed” and “Outbreak”) are completed, you’ll receive the new main quest “Retaking Horryn” and Iben the ranger becomes a companion.
- Frantzo (28,51) asks to find food and you get the quest “Mouths to feed”
- The subquest “Jacub’s goat”. Inspecting the footprints with survival skill at (50,61) will lead you to the goats location, The Hidden Glen. You can also talk to the woman in the kitchen for a new journal entry “The hidenn Glen” about it. At the hidden Glen you can force the boy to come back to the camp (easy) or tell him you’ll try to convince his father (much more difficult)
- The subquest “An alternate supply”: you can ask the smuggler in the Sea Cave to provide food supplies for 500gp
- Drahl (6, 50) asks to find a way to stop the outbreak with the quest “Outbreak”. Talking with Hannah (58,7) you learn that
- Marsa (13,46) gives the quest “Find Froggert!”. Froggert is a plushie that can be found in a barrel on the north side of the camp (32,57)
- Donovan (27,46) asks that you look for Zhara in a cave outside of the camp, to the northwest. There is no quest, but there is a journal entry for that, the Weathermaiden’s plight
- Driina (20,44) is a hospitaller that can be recruited by talking to her
- The gravedigger (33,27) can be offered help to finish the burying work, this will earn you some fighting XP
- In the barn near Markus you can rest and create new party member
- Maija sells the recipes for Eggs and bacon, and vegetable soup
- The recipes for Baked Fish and Cheese Plate can be found on the ground in the kitchen
2.4 Sea caves
- Zhara (60,27) asks to look for Iago at the black market under the city of Zhorrin. This starts “The Lost Captain” quest
- Anto (67,36) owns a general store. He can also provide supplies to the refugee camp for 500 gp.
- There’s a cheese sandwich recipe at (27,42)
2.5 The Hidden Glen
1 – Jakub’s son and goats
During the quest “Jakub’s Goats”, you can force the boy to bring the goats back to the Refugee Camp (strength easy check). Or tell him you’ll convince his father to change his mind (survival or diplomacy hadr checks). The other option is to leave the goats alone and pay 500gp to the smuggler in the Sea Cave for an alternate soure of food.
2.6 Wreck Site

- Snow gives the quest “Lost Sailors” to find 3 missing sailors. Four can be found. One is a potential merchant but you might fail saving her.
- One is in the Foul Caves (10,18)
- One (Leva) in in the Northeast corner of the map, attacked by hounds. Place yourself between Leva and the hounds to protect her during the fight
- One is at Lighthouse Exterior in the southwest corner at (2,20)
- One is at the Shores of Idra near the telescope at (12,37)
- Once the Lost Sailors quest is complete, Snow will ask you to look for the others he sent to the Zephyr, which becomes accessible for the quest “Zephyr’s Wreck”. You will need to fight Chitters-in-Darkness, a miniboss in the wreckage.
- There’s a recipe for the potion of acid resistance in the house at (48,24)
2.7 The Deep Forest / Forest Caves
1 – Mother Katak (quest NPC, potion, receipes and reagents merchant)
2 – Forest caves (dungeon entrance)
3 – Lumberjack camp
4 – Big oak
5 – Fetid pools
Notes
- Shortly after entering the forest, you receive the quest “Timber!” to save the son of a lumberjack. He can be found in the Forest caves southeast area (67,42)
- Mother Katak will help for “A mother’s love” quest from the Refugee camp, but first asks you to get the un-born of the scaled one. It’s a lizard egg found in the central forest caves.
- The waterfall leads to the southeast part of the caves
- The lizard egg (12,86) to the west is the item that Mother Katak is looking for
- The lumberjack’s son can be found in a cocoon In the spider area at (67,42)
Food recipes
Can also be found on a note at (27,42) in the Sea Caves.
