For Baldur’s Gate 3 players who want to know more about pickpocketing for gold in game, this guide will show you.
Anyone can do this if you are past level 4 and have access to Withers.
First of all hire a Hireling from withers, Specifically Brianna Brightsong, since she is a Lightfoot Halfling she auto rerolls if her dice gets a 1.
Then use Withers to respec her to a Rogue Class.
At level 3 select Thief subclass, at Level 4 get the feat Ability Improvement and put all points from it into Dex.
From here put on any +dex / sleight of hand / stealth gear you have on her.
Now that setup is complete you can use her to steal from Merchants.
Find merchants that are isolated and are not in a lot of traffic, as passerbys will take you out of stealth.
Once you find your target crouch behind them and enter turned base mode, pickpocket everything that you can or want, then use dash to get out of their detection range and hit go to camp.
Some tricks i have found that work exceptionally well.
-You can shrink stacks of items by shift clicking them in the traders window, this makes it easier to pick pocket stacks of potions/gold/arrows/etc and make them easier to sell.
– I tend to buy out all the items they have until they just have gold left, i then shrink their good stacks to under 100 gold then swoop in with Brianna and take my gold back.
– You can steal your gold back from Withers after changing class or hiring a hireling, Withers will not do anything if your pickpocket fails.
If you get caught stealing you need to get away from them, the best way is getting out of their melee range using crouch/stealth then dashing away, once your out of combat return to camp for awhile.
