For new players of Starship Troopers: Extermination, this guide will show you how to counter bugs in game.
Foreward
Short controlled bursts kill faster than mag dumping
Bugs can launch you forward slightly if you jump before getting hit
Your Knife recharges in ~0.75 seconds
Reloading your gun and switching to a different one will NOT save your reload progress
Drones
– Can slow you down from a full sprint to a crawl
– Can attack you while sprinting awayHow to counter:
– Hitting them with a knife with one-hit kill them
– Your melee weapon seems to have an AOE attack, as it can kill 2-3 bugs right beside eachother
– Jumping and moving diagonally could help you avoid attacks (more testing needed)
– Dies in one headshot or several body shots
Warriors
– Way faster than you, can take you down from full health to 0 in one swipe
– Generally prioritise these bugs unless there are Gunners, Tigers, or Grenaders in the areaHow to counter:
– You knife, despite not showing a hitmaker, can knock them back into a stagger animation with a well timed hit
– A rocket can one-hit kill them
– The emancipator can stun them and the sniper can stagger enemies back
– The MK1 Carbine, despite doing less damage, has a higher rate of stagger
Jackal Snipers (AKA Gunners)
– You can tell it’s them by the glowing orange weakpoints and stooped posture
– Can take you down from full health to 0 in about 1-2 seconds
– Probably play a lot of Halo 2 LegendaryHow to counter:
– Aim for the orange bits on the side with a long ranged weapon as well as the C shape on the front of its “face”
– If a Gunner bug is firing near you, you’ll get a visual and audio surpression effect, duck into cover and look for the firing line
– Don’t bother using the Rocket Launcher against them as the bullet spread will work against you
– Prioritise these over all other bugs
Tiger Elite
– Hardest to take down
– Yellow and black stripes all along legs, upper and lowerHow to counter:
– Scan grenade (all bugs scanned take x2 damage)
– Dies in 30 hits with Hawkeye
– Can be taken out with 3-6(?) rockets
Grenadier
– Opens up top stem to shoot out blue fireball(?) that explodes with a large AOE. Explosion instakills anyone in radius
– Fireball can go over walls and take troops out from afar
– Fireball has a trail when flying overheadHow to counter:
– Scan grenade followed by 3 rockets is enough to kill it
– 3 rockets on its own can probably(?) kill it
– Grenade Launcher can take them out in 5-6 shots
– Dies in 42 hits with Hawkeye
Ambushes
-If you are overwhelmed, look to stagger the closest and most dangerous bugs. This will buy you some breathing room until your team catches up with you, or you make it to a safer location.
-In a pinch, shooting a rocket at your feet right when you die will send you flying. This can lead to you shooting off towards extraction, or several hundred meters away from your squadron.
