For Demonologist players, this guide is about Hunter Specialisation Concept I came up with to go with the game, let’s check it out.
Introduction
More experienced Ghost Hunters may choose to enhance their skill set in ways beyond the purchasing of simple equipment. Whether through Financial, Spiritual or Scientific methods, Hunters could gain “Specialisations”. Granting them unique abilities, with unique costs.
Hunters would be able to acquire multiple specialisations with enough time, money and dedication. But ultimately would only be able to apply one of these to an investigation. Chosen alongside their equipment.
The Psychic.
Psychic Hunters are those that have chosen to open themselves up spiritually, Allowing for a greater understanding of the actions of the other side through their “Glimpses”. However, Being a conduit to the frequencies of the other side has its drawbacks. Psychics will find electrical equipment unreliable to the point of uselessness in their immediate proximity, Forcing them to lean into their own spiritualistic nature to find most evidence types.
Pros: Will occasionally and briefly see evidence without required equipment, such as a flicker of a handprint, the shimmer of an ectoplasm stain, or the aura of an EMF signal.
Cons: Electrical equipment such as EMF readers, Spirit Boxes, And sometimes even flashlights will malfunction in the Psychic’s Presence.
The Pact-Bearer.
They can Briefly “Peer” through the eyes of their unseen companion, Granting them the ability to see Handprints, Ectoplasm Stains, EMF Auras, Cold Spots and other Evidence traces for a few seconds. This ability can only be used very sparingly, As it takes a great toll on the body and mind of the Hunter. Draining their stamina completely, Lowering their sanity considerably, and often upsetting the other unseen inhabitants of the house. Plus, Due to the nature of their companion, Crucifixes and other protection items will not protect them.Pros: “Peer” Ability, Drains sanity and stamina to show evidence without Equipment.Cons: Protective items such as crucifixes will not protect Pact-Bearers.
The Spirited.
Spirited Hunters have access to the “Project” Ability, Allowing them to leave their bodies behind and see the world as if they had passed on. Temporarily losing access to any interactions in the world, and no longer being able to use items on their body, but being able to freely scout ahead without their flesh holding them back. But they should be careful where they leave their bodies, Being in the astral can’t protect you from mortal harm.
Spirited Hunters take an extra precaution on Investigations, After a projection, their body can be left quite tired for a long while, So to prevent this from slowing them down, they choose to travel light, Limiting themselves to 2 Objects in their Inventory.Pros: Can “Project”, allowing them to temporarily die and scout ahead without worrying about the ghost attacking them or running out of stamina.Cons: Can only hold 2 Items in their inventory, Will be vulnerable if their body is left in harm’s way.
The Pack Mule.
Their abilities may not be as “Special” as other hunters, but they are nevertheless great additions to any team.
They boast the ability to carry an additional item in their inventory. as well as a minor stamina capacity boost for every empty inventory slot they possess, besides the first of course.
However, boast they certainly do. Pack Mule Hunters are notorious for being a little clumsy, and loud enough to wake the dead.Pros: Extra Inventory Slot, Increased Stamina Capacity per empty slot above 1.Cons: Their communication and actions are more likely to Anger the ghost.
The Blessed.
Blessed Hunters are those that devote themselves to a more religious speciality. Whether it be regular attendance at a church or dabbling in protective rituals, Their very soul is stalwart. A Blessed Hunter will find themselves Protected from 1 Attack from a ghost per game, Acting as if they possessed a Crucifix. This protection will be used AFTER existing protections. Granting them a second chance, should death come for them. Everything comes at a price however, Possessing such a powerful ward draws the attention of even the meekest of spiritual assailants. Meaning that a Blessed Hunter is also a Wanted Hunter.
Pros: Once per game, Will be protected from death.
Cons: Will be targeted by the ghost more often, from further away, most likely with higher Priority.
