Pesticide Not Required: Frog Tier List

Posted on March 26, 2024

A tier list and ranking of every frog in the game.

S Tier

1. Finn

Easily the best frog in the game. He scales incredibly well, since his fishing yield bonus will allow you to power level quickly, and once you get fishing speed on him, the remainder of your run will be a breeze. His only notable downside is that he starts with a lackluster starting attack.

2. Sir Hopselot

Much like Finn, he scales incredibly well. However his requires you to get the correct buffs from your level ups, and that added RNG just limits his viability compared to Finn.

3. Bean

Just like the previous two frogs, Bean scales incredibly well provided you get the right buffs. Damage and Attack Size are two of the most important stats, and having them scale is great. It’s also nice that Bean’s attack frequency isn’t limited to a low base stat, so you can counteract the loss given.

A Tier

4. Joe

Despite being the starting character, Joe is great, and is well capable of winning Level 4 Seasons. This is thanks to him having attack frequency and XP gain with no downsides. He doesn’t have the best scaling, but the XP gain allows you make due with the upgrades you get from level ups.

5. Greg From Accounting

Greg scales amazingly well if you can make it past the first few days, but the +30% shop prices can make him scale slowly at the start, however if you can make it through that you’re granted with one of the biggest coin makers in the game who can also deal insane amounts of damage to bosses and enemies.

6. Bubba

While Bubba isn’t that good at deal damage, he does a really good job of not dying, especially if you’ve upgraded your frogs’ resistance and HP gain per level. It’s also nice that you can freely pick up upgrades that lower move speed without any worry due to his one trait.

7. Truffle

Truffle has a lot of great aspects, and even the downside of extra enemy spawns can be viewed as an upside when it comes to farming coins. However, the issue with Truffle is that he wants you to farm your crops during the day, and kill enemies at night. This isn’t the most feasible since most crops will take until night to finish growing, and it can force you to avoid the farm area at night until you can grab them and go to the merchant.

8. Penelhoppe

No character can start off a run quite like Peneloppe. If you’re able to get an early movement speed buff, you’re immediately able to get all of the day 1 fishing and mining spots with plenty of time left to farm your crops for the day. However, she can’t gain any resistance, and can be prone to large hits in the late game if you get encircled.

B Tier

9. Collier

Collier is the mining twin of Finn, and even has a better starting attack. He’s 2 tiers lower though, due to the fact that since neither really cares about crops that aren’t for weapons, you don’t have much need for his buffs to mining. So unlike Finn, who can start power leveling from the start, Collier is stuck deciding to earn coins from mining, or try to get upgrades by leveling up slowly farming or fishing.

10. Hue Mann

He is great at scaling for the late game. But he also comes with the massive downside that his damage scales by only 50% and has -500% Crit damage. This can prevent him from dealing with bosses, and only being able to deal with the mobs of enemies.

11. Squeegee

This is probably the only farming focused frog where you don’t want to pick up the elephant pet, since your best way to earn exp is to water your crops. So crops that generally grow quickly and need a lot of water can give Squeegee several early levels. He just doesn’t have any way of scaling his damage outside of the upgrades he earns.

12. Billybob

He can scale really well if you’re going for a farming build, and has a lot of late game potential. However, you need to use Gems to get the Crop Growth Speed buff in your pantry to have any hope of reaching that end game stage for him, since he’s very weak early on.

C Tier

13. Stripe

Stripe is one of the most unique frogs, but that also holds him back. He’s a frog who wants to be built as a jack of all trade for farming, fishing, and mining, but this can fail with bad RNG, and it also doesn’t allow him to scale the best since he doesn’t have any scaling to his attacks, despite starting with the best attack in the game.

14. Furog

Furog is another interesting frog who wants to be at low HP while farming, and then healing from Apple drops. However relying on an apple build can be tricky since there’s not many upgrades that support the build, but if it pays of, you can make one of the highest regen frogs possible. Another thing holding Furgo back is the lack of damage scaling.

15. Mignon

Mignon can be a lot of fun if you’re someone who enjoys using the pets to assist you. Mignon has one of the easiest day 1s of any character, since you’ll have turrets and a cat assisting you kill enemies, while the other animals farm. This allows Mignon to focus on mining and fishing. If you’re able to get good drops from this you can scale really well. However if you fail to get useful upgrades, you’re stuck with a low damage character that’s unable to deal with being swarmed.

16. Pumpkin

Pumpkin sounds good when you first start reading their stats, but the negatives really impact this frog’s capabilities. The crit chance and damage can be nice, but the damage doesn’t scale as much as you’d like since the -50% damage change prevents you from being able to really high damage crits. You’re better off just upgrading crit onto a character like Bean or Sir Hopselot for a better result.

D Tier

17. Swifty

Swifty is a frog with a very glass cannon kind of build. This is mostly due to their most notable stat being temporary. Swifty ants to farm a bunch of quick growing crops to kill enemies for coins, but when you’re unable to improve your crop yield, it also prevents you from adequately scaling and getting the needed levels to keep up with the tougher enemies since you’ll have fewer upgrades.

18. Sprout

Sprout can do a lot of damage if things go right, however he suffers a lot in the early game since he has -50% attack size and -50% damage growth. So it’s easy for him to quickly get overwhelmed if you’re unable to get good upgrades for him early on.

19. Plotty

Plotty is basically just a worse version of Mignon, Truffle, or Penelhoppe. He wants to invest as much as possible into growing his farm, but has no damage scaling, income scaling, and is entirely reliant on not harvesting what’s planted until it can be replaced. You’re also capped at +96% mining and fishing speed, since there’s no way to get more than 48 plots.

F Tier

20. Dr Hopps

This is just a worse version of Furog. Unlike Furog, who can get regen if you invest enough in it, and gains healing from apples, Dr Hopps is completely unable to get regen, and also gets a massive -70% healing from apples. He also quickly gets swarmed by enemies since he has -50% attack frequency with no easy way of scaling his damage.

21. James Pond

This frog has the highest skill ceiling in the game. I won’t deny that. His buffs are incredible, but he’s riding on one fatal flaw, and that’s his HP being literally 1. You’re given 1 free hit a day, but usually if you’re on a Level 4 season, you’re going to be hit more than once to enemies in an instant, so the shield might as well not exist, since you don’t receive I-Frames after losing it. It’s a shame that the hardest frog to unlock is also the worst.
