PAYDAY 3 How To Modify Your Crosshair’s Color

Posted on October 1, 2023
For PAYDAY 3 players who want to modify your crosshair’s dot and line colors, and hitmarkers on hit, headshot and kill? Here’s the guide for you!

0. PSA

Caution: I’m very new to creating guide, and not a native english speaker, excuse me for any mistakes I may have made in the making of this. I only want to share something I’ve discovered and didn’t find online or other guides ;w;
This guide may age very poorly if Payday 3 Devs add this as a feature in future updates, but for now I proudly claim the title of pioneer of crosshair color moding 😀

1. Accessing and opening the config file

The first step of actually modifying your crosshair, is getting to the config file of the game which can be found under these file paths :

%localappdata%\Payday3\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameSettings.ini C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\PAYDAY3\Saved\Config\WindowsClient\GameSettings.ini

Use either Win+R and pasting the first file path above, or manually using explorer, it’s up to you.

After reaching the file, open it with your preferred text editing software (I’m using VS Code here)
Now, for the fun part.

2. Modifying color values

Now, pull out your calculators, because you’ll need them to do some conversion.

After opening the GameSettings.ini file, locate lines 33 to 39, or something along the line of

Crosshairs

and

HitIndicator

Mine are already edited, but the R, B and G values of both Crosshairs Bar and Dot colors and HitIndicatorColorHit too should be at 1.000000

What each line does should be obvious by reading them.

Info: A is for alpha, if you want to mess around with the transparency of your crosshair, wouldn’t recommend personally for visibility reasons.

You may notice that the values aren’t exactly your typical 0-255, and actually a float.
We’re gonna have to convert your typical 0-255 value to a 0-1 value.

Please note that bright colors may be hard to see in game depending on the lighting, use darker shades or very bright ones

Let’s take my color for example : Indigo: rgb(75,0,130)
The easiest way to convert the 0-255 R, G and B values is by doing

<value> / 255

Example: For my R value, of 75, this would be

75 / 255

which is equal to:

scary numbers I know, hold my hand and we’ll pull through c:

To get your final value, just take your first 7 numbers, 6 numbers after the dot.
For this example it would be:

0.294117

Just replace the R value of the GameSettings.ini with the value we calculated.

For the G and B values, just rince and repeat what we did above, but with the G value, and then B value
This can also be applied hit, crit and kill hitmarker of course, just change the appropriate lines in the config file.

3. Results

After the math hell, you can enjoy your new crosshair color!

If you are messing around and want to check the result, just go to the settings menu and hover over any of the crosshair settings and you’ll have a preview of it

If you like the newly modified colors, just go in game and see it for yourself !

That’s all we are sharing today in PAYDAY 3 How To Modify Your Crosshair’s Color, if you have anything to add, please feel free to leave a comment below, you can also read the original article here, all the credits goes to the original author Endlassy
