For Ghostwire: Tokyo players who are collecting Tanuki in game, this guide will provide you locations of all tanuki by shrine area in alphabetical order.
Introduction
Tanuki are animals you can collect. Within Japanese folklore, the Tanuki have had a significant role since ancient times. The legendary Tanuki are reputed to be mischievous and jolly, masters of disguise and shapeshifting but somewhat gullible and absentminded.
Collecting all 25 Tanuki will complete the “Tanuki Hunt” side mission, and unlock the “Your Tail’s Showing” Achievement. This will also unlock “The Boss Tanuki” side mission, which rewards Akito with a Tanuki Outfit once completed.
While Akito can pray at white boxes outside certain Shrines to reveal exact Tanuki locations in that area, this costs Meika, and not every Shrine has an Offering Box. Akito also has the Ability to scan any area with KK’s Spectral Vision. This will highlight certain objects in blue, including Tanuki. They are always disguised as another object, however, so this makes finding them a little tricky. Look out for their distinct tails, and make sure to use Spectral Vision while following the instructions below to make locating all 25 Tanuki easier.
Every Tanuki rewards a unique Emote for Akito to pose with while in Ghostwire: Tokyo’s Photo Mode. As an additional reward, for every 5 Tanuki you find, a Charm item is obtained. Charms enhance some of Akito’s buffs, and don’t need to be equipped in order for the effect to apply.
The following table lists all Tanuki Charm Rewards, their effect, and how many Tanuki you must find to get the Charm.
