Chess Ultra 100% Achievement Guide

If you play Chess Ultra and want to get 100% achievement in the game, this guide will show you how to every achievement in the game, let’s check it out.

Chess Notation

This guide makes heavy use of standard algebraic notation[en.wikipedia.org]. The gist of it is as follows:

A prefix to describe the piece that was moved:
- K for king
- Q for queen
- R for rook
- B for bishop
- N for knight
- no prefix for pawn
An x if a piece was captured
Grid coordinates describing where the piece landed:
- a to h from left to right (white at the bottom)
- 1 to 8 from white side to black side
A + or # if the move was check or checkmate

There are two moves per line, white is always the left set as white always moves first.

Online Tournaments

Tournament Amateur – Win a tournament

Tournament Pro – Win 5 tournaments

Tournament Master – Win 20 tournaments

Tournament Champion – Win a 32 player tournament

I have put these first as they require the most organisation.
These must be done with other Steam accounts, minimum 4 accounts to create a tournament and 32 for 🏆 Tournament Champion. The game features asynchronous multiplayer so not all players need to be online at the same time.

Ideally, the tournament organiser will create a tournament with 4 or 32 players (depending on the achievement), add everyone to the tournament and everyone (besides the designated winner) will delete the tournament from their game (and thus resign). Repeat for everyone who wants to win.

Miscellaneous Achievements

These achievements don’t really fall into any category, or more than one category.

Chop Wood – Make a capture or exchange

Impossible to miss.

Check – Put an opponent in check

Impossible to miss.

Checkmate – Win a game

Impossible to miss.

Piece Collector – Capture 100 pieces

Self-explanatory. Just do random stuff against a Novice AI or a friend if you’re still missing this by the end.

Bobby Time – Play a game using the Fischer timer

Combine this with any game boosted with a friend or against the AI. The achievement will unlock on checkmate. Refer to Fool’s Mate and Scholar’s Mate achievements for fastest wins for either side.

By Yourself

This section describes achievements that are easily done by yourself.

Learner – Complete all the tutorials

Self-explanatory.

Problem Solver – Complete 50% of the chess challenges

Problem Solved – Complete all the chess challenges

O-O-O – Castle queenside

Unlocks as part of the tutorial, but instructions are below in case you want to do it with a friend. Play as White for the achievement. Black moves don’t really matter.

Promotion – Advance a pawn to the eighth rank

Underpromote – Promote a pawn to a Rook, Bishop, or Knight instead of a Queen

Both unlock as part of the tutorial, but instructions are below in case you promote to a Queen instead of one of the other pieces. Play as White for the achievement.

Doubled Pawn – Have two pawns of the same colour on the same file

En Passant – Perform an en passant capture

Load up the first challenge in ” Mate in 7″.

Family Fork – Using a Knight simultaneously attack the enemy King and Queen

Load up the first challenge in ” Mate in 1″. You’ll lose the challenge, but unlock the achievement anyway.

Or if you want to do it with a friend, play as White for the achievement.

Elo – Beat an opponent with an Elo rating higher than yours

Elo Elo – Beat an opponent with an Elo rating more than 75 higher than yours

Elo Elo Elo – Beat an opponent with an Elo rating more than 150 higher than yours

Chess Champion – Beat the computer on Grandmaster difficulty

It it isn’t already, repeatedly lose games against the AI until your Elo is 150 under the AI’s on Grandmaster difficulty. Play as White for the achievement.

Play as black.

Input lichess.org’s White moves into Chess Ultra as your own moves and Chess Ultra’s moves into lichess.org. Continue until one side wins. I recommend flipping the board on lichess (🔄 button) so it’s easier to mirror the moves.

With a Friend

While all these achievements may be possible against the AI, I highly recommend boosting them with a friend to make your life easier. You can’t choose your side in online games, so you’ll have to keep making games until you get the side you need. While most of these are possible with both sides, I’m too lazy to write instructions for both sides.

Stranger Danger – Create a random online game

Self-explanatory. Unlocks on creating the game. Winning/losing isn’t relevant.

Friendly Fire – Issue an online challenge to a friend

Self-explanatory. Unlocks on creating the game. Winning/losing isn’t relevant. Make sure your friend is on your Steam friends list and has at least launched the game so they show up in game.

Absolute Pin – Pin a piece against your opponent’s King

Octopus – Place a White Knight on e6

Spanish Bishop – Develop a White King Bishop to b5

Play as White for the achievements.
