For Warhammer 40,000: Darktide players, this is a guide I’ve created to share the various Veteran Sharpshooter builds I’ve come up with over my time playing the beta and the game.
Builds Included
- Assault Bolter – The “Assault Bolter” build is constructed around you guessed it, the bolter. You are an elite killing machine, using the bolter’s high damage to drop threats as quickly as possible and then utilizing feat perks to maximize those kills.
- Helbore Sniper – The build is meant to complement the playstyle of hanging back and providing support by fire using the combo perks of “Sniper” and “Deadshot” to deal massive amounts of damage to targets.
- Melee Grenadier – This build is to get into the fray and go ham throwing grenades. You’ll be generating grenades like crazy from the “Demolition Stockpile and Team” perks. Make use of grenades along with a powersword to absolutely melt non-elite mobs.
Assault Bolter
The “Assault Bolter” build is constructed around you guessed it, the bolter. You are an elite killing machine, using the bolter’s high damage to drop threats as quickly as possible and then utilizing feat perks to maximize those kills.
Control the bolter and use its excellent accuracy to kill targets from afar. Then when you get up close use the bolter’s burst fire mode to blow away the enemy elites and then, using the perks, reload extremely quickly putting you back into the fight.
When an engagement begins…
- Find a location for you to setup with good fields of fire but stay within coherency!
- Try to stay still to make effective use of the “Camo Expert” perk.
- Use the bolter in semi-auto mode to destroy all enemy shooters while your team handles the melee mobs.
- When an elite shows itself that’s when you spring into action using the awesome firepower of the bolter to eliminate the threat.
- Your melee weapon is to give you distance from mobs and allow you the space to use your bolter. Use a weapon with the “parry” special ability and use that along with dodging to create space.
- Try to only use “Volley Fire” when you either need to spot a target or need a fast reload. The bolter does enough damage that you don’t need to use the ability to increase damage. It should be used to reload quickly.
Ranged Weapon: Locke Mk IIb Spearhead Boltgun
Melee Weapon: Catachan Mk III Combat Blade (or any weapon with “parry”)
- Level 5
Confirmed Kill: Replenish 25% Toughness on Elite Kill, and a further 25% Toughness over time.Reasoning – Since you’ll be killing elites often, this perk will allow you to regain toughness quickly.
- Level 10
Tactical Reload: +20% Reload Speed if Ammo is still in your weapon.Reasoning – The bolter is slow to reload, and you want your weapon up as quickly as possible. This perk helps mitigate the slow reload and stacks with the “One After Another” perk. Just remember to keep a round in the magazine before you reload.
- Level 15
Demolition Team: You and allies in Coherency have a 5% chance to gain a Grenade on Elite Enemy Kill.Reasoning – This perk will help make up for the loss of the excellent “Demolition Stockpile” perk. Since you’ll be taking out elites often, you’d be surprised at how quickly you and your team fills up with grenades.
- Level 20
Camo Expert: While standing still, enemies are significantly less likely to target you.Reasoning – An overall great perk. This will aid you in drawing attention away from you while you’re vulnerable reloading your bolter.
- Level 25
One After Another: +30% Reload Speed on Elite Kill.Reasoning – This perk stacked with “Tactical Reload” makes reloading the bolter a breeze. This allows you to unload on an elite with a bolters burst fire to get an elite kill and then reload without missing a beat.
- Level 30
Sustained Fire: Volley Fire reloads your weapon and replenishes 60% Toughness. Killing a Designated Enemy during Volley Fire refreshes its duration.Reasoning – As the perk says this will allow you to have a free reload with your bolter minimizing the time your gun is down. Time it to when you run out of rounds and then activate your Volley Fire ability to maximize the amount of fire you can put down range.
Helbore Sniper
Stay back and use your Helbore lasgun as a sniper rifle. This build is meant to complement this play style.
Ranged Weapon: Lucius Helbore Mk II/III Lasgun (more damage the better)
Melee Weapon: Catachan Mk III Combat Blade (or any weapon with “parry”)
- Level 5
At Arm’s Length: Replenish 5% Toughness/second while more than eight meters from Enemies.Reasoning – You’ll be firing at a distance to make full use of the “Sniper” perk. This perk compliments this perk.
- Level 10
Sniper: Deal up to 20% increased damage based on the distance between you and the target.Reasoning – This perk along with “Deadshot” are the keys to this build. This allows your lasgun to deal substantial amounts of damage making it a contender to rival the plasma gun.
- Level 15
Covering Fire: When you kill an enemy with a ranged attack, allies in melee range of the target replenish 10% Toughness.Reasoning – When your teammates become in engaged this perk will allow you to re-build their lost toughness as you provide support by fire.
- Level 20
Camo Expert: While standing still, enemies are significantly less likely to target you.Reasoning – This perk greatly improves your survival. I’ve noticed melee mobs rush past me to engage teammates. Just be sure to stand still.
- Level 25
Deadshot: When using your weapon’s Alt Fire, gain 25% Critical Chance and 60% Sway Reduction but lose 10% Stamina per second.Reasoning – Complimenting the “Sniper” perk, this will further increase your damage at range.
- Level 30
The Bigger They Are…: +50% Damage (Ogryns and Monstrosities) during Volley Fire. Volley Fire Designates Ogryn and Monstrosities as Priority Targets. Killing a Designated Enemy during Volley Fire refreshes its duration.Reasoning – This perk is for when you encounter bosses. It’s not required and can be switched out with others in this level. However, I’ve found this perk to be the best out of the three.
Melee Grenadier
This is a very rough draft of my melee grenadier build. I’ll format and add better details later when I have time. For now, I wanted to put down an outline.
This build is to get into the fray and go ham throwing grenades. You’ll be generating grenades like crazy from the “Demolition Stockpile and Team” perks. Make use of grenades along with a powersword to absolutely melt non-elite mobs.
Ranged Weapon: (Accatran Mk VId Recon Lasgun or any Braced Autogun, you want high “shoot from the hip” rate of fire)
Melee Weapon: Munitorium Mk III Power Sword
- Level 5 – Confirmed Kill: Replenish 25% Toughness on Elite Kill, and a further 25% Toughness over time.
- Level 10 – Demolition Stockpile: Replenish one Grenade every 60s.
- Level 15 – Demolition Team: You and allies in Coherency have a 5% chance to gain a Grenade on Enemy Kill.
- Level 20 – Duck and Dive: Dodging, Sprinting, and Sliding to avoid ranged attacks grants 20% Stamina.
- Level 25 – Frag Storm: Frag Grenades apply 8 stacks of Bleed to all enemies hit.
- Level 30 – Sustained Fire: Volley Fire reloads your weapon and replenishes 60% Toughness. Killing a Designated Enemy during Volley Fire refreshes its duration.
