For Hogwarts Legacy players who are using a PS5 Controller, following this guide, you can enable various levels of rumble, including audio haptics and (unofficial) adaptive triggers.
NOTE – YOU NEED TO HAVE YOUR CONTOLLER PLUGGED IN VIA USB!
Advanced rumble
– this will enable all of the natively supported vibrations, not just the basic rumble you get from DS4/Xbox emulation. It includes menu vibrations when opening the map or going through settings, spells and combat have different vibrations, broom flying etc.
- 1. Make sure you have your DualSense controller plugged in via USB.
- 2. Select the game from your steam library, click on controller layout which will open a menu
- 3. Select the official Avalanche studios controller profile and apply
- 4. Enable steam input for the game
- 5. Start the game
- 6. Make sure rumble is set to “on” in the game
You can check if it’s working right after the initial “Hogwarts Legacy” screen shows up, when you press “X” to continue to the menu, you will feel the rumble go from one side to another following the logo. In the main menu, you will feel little vibrations as you hover over the options. If it doesn’t, exit the game and toggle steam input off and on.
Advanced rumble with audio haptics
– this will add another layer of vibrations on top of the above. You will now feel unique spell vibrations (try basic spell, incendio, and reparo to see what I mean), wooden floors in hogwarts will give you very distinct vibrations, and overall an audio-based vibration feedback.
It can be done in two ways – with and without headphones.
With headphones:
- 1. Right click the speaker icon in windows -> click sounds -> choose the playback tab
- 2. Make sure Wireless controller device is enabled, but do not make it your default playback device
- 3. Plug in your headphones into the controller
- 4. Start the game
Without headphones:
- 1. Download VoiceMeeter – or a different software that allows you to set up two audio outputs
- 2. Set your first audio device “A1” to your primary audio device (speakers, headphones, tv…)
- 3. Set your second audio device “A2” to your controler’s Wireless speakers
- 4. Click the speaker icon in windows -> choose ” VoiceMeeter Input”
- 5. Start the game
Note – VoiceMeeter works in PCM mode, this means if you’re playing on a surround setup (5.1, 7.1, Dolby Atmos, etc…, or using EARC on your TV), you will only get stereo output.
Adaptive triggers (unofficial)
– this enables feedback on your controller’s R2 button. From what I understand, the PS5 version of the game has unique trigger feedback for spells and other things. Although you can get an adaptive trigger effect with this, it will only be a custom effect that will be applied to your controller in general, not to the individual interactions in the game. It’s still pretty good if you want at least some kind of feedback/pressure when casting spells.
- 1. Download DSX (Tested on the paid Steam version, but there’s also a free version on github)
- 2. In the Adaptive Triggers menu, choose your right trigger
- 3. Under “Trigger Mode” choose one of the modes – I find “Resistance” with the Start value on 7, Force on 1 to be pretty good, or “Very Soft” / “Soft”, although I don’t know how the original effect in the game feels like
- 4. Click “Apply right trigger”
- 5. If you play around with the modes and values, you can customise it even more and reach better results
Unless someone makes a custom mod profile for the triggers, or the devs update the game with official adaptive trigger support, this is the best you can do.
